Kyrgyzstan’s Ikhtiyor Nishonov knocked out his semi-final opponent at the Elorda Cup

Following the women’s semi-finals, the men’s also finished their exciting contests in the last four in Astana today. The fifth competition day of the 3rd Elorda Cup guaranteed top quality of boxing for all of the local fans in Kazakhstan.

The organizers of the Elorda Cup are the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Astana City and the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation. Kazakhstan has just hosted the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships and the Elorda Cup is their next event in Astana.

The number of the female boxers is 68 in Astana and 110 male athletes will fight for the titles in the 3rd edition of the Elorda Cup.

Japan sent a promising team to the Elorda Cup including mostly U22 boxers but their Kazuma Aratake is the most experienced. The Asian Championships silver medallist was too smart for a local boxer, Ali Tokhtarov and he will now meet for the title of the minimumweight (48kg) Kazakhstan’s Askhat Zhussupov.

Kazakhstan’s Saken Bibossynov, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist, had to do his very best against Japan’s Asian U22 silver finisher Soushi Makino today to join the finals of the flyweight (51kg). The Elorda Cup is part of his Olympic preparation and the Kazakh star will now meet for the title Damir Abdikadyr, a local hopeful.

Kazakhstan’s Orazbek Assylkulov is one of their silver boys who had very difficult finals in the previous years. The featherweight (57kg) boxer was patient and his tactics paid off against Uzbekistan’s Mirzabek Mirzakhalilov which means he can fight for the gold medal with the World Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan who walked over to the final.

Serik Temirzhanov, the Tokyo Olympian, returned to the lightweight (60kg) and the Pavlodar-based boxer is now a finalist at the Elorda Cup. The 26-year-old boxer is smart and strong which were the best combinations against one of the veterans of the event, Adilet Kurmetov today.

Iran’s Ali Habibinezhad proved his strong progress in the entire competition in Astana and he is a finalist at the light welterweight (63.5kg). The 26-year-old Iranian kept the full focus until the last gong against Kazakhstan’s Zhandos Kydyraliev therefore Habibinezhad will meet for the title Uzbekistan’s Adkhamjon Mukhiddinov.

Kyrgyzstan’s Ikhtiyor Nishonov won the recent Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Bishkek and he remained his chance alive to get another international title. The 21-year-old Kyrgyz knocked out Bakhtiyar Smagulov and he will be boxing for the gold medal with Nurbek Mursal, a Youth World silver medallist talent.

One of the most anticipated finals have realized between China’s Asian Games winner Tuohetaerbieke Tanglatihan and Uzbekistan’s 19-year-old Rakhmatullo Boymatov at the light heavyweight (80kg). The next top final will be held between two Paris Olympians, Aibek Oralbay and Kamshybek Kunkabayev at the super heavyweight (+92kg).
