Wu Yu defeated Sabina Bobokulova on their third re-match in Astana

The women’s semi-finals were on the official program in the fourth competition day at the 3rd Elorda Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan. China’s Asian Games winner Wu Yu defeated Uzbekistan’s Sabina Bobokulova on their third re-match within short period of time.

The organizers of the Elorda Cup are the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Astana City and the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation. Kazakhstan has just hosted the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships and the Elorda Cup is their next event in Astana.

The women boxers will be able to compete from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the heavyweight (+81kg) in Astana. The male boxers will be boxing for the medals from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg).

The number of the female boxers is 68 in Astana and 110 male athletes will fight for the titles in the 3rd edition of the Elorda Cup.

India’s Minakshi controlled all of the three rounds against Kazakhstan’s Gulnaz Buribayeva and she became the first female finalist at the Elorda Cup. The quick Indian will be boxing for the title of the minimumweight (48kg) with Uzbekistan’s 20-year-old Saidakhon Rakhmonova who defeated also a local boxer, Aigerim Sattibayeva.

China’s Wu Yu defeated Uzbekistan’s Sabina Bobokulova in the recent Asian Games and she earned the title in Hangzhou last October. The young Uzbek made a revenge at the Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria this February and she qualified for the Olympics in Busto Arsizio. The Chinese boxer was more focused on their third re-match in Astana and she defeated the smaller Bobokulova which means Wu Yu is a finalist at the women’s light flyweight (50kg).

India’s Nikhat Zareen, the two-time World Champion, competes at the flyweight (52kg) in Astana to avoid the difficult weight loss before the Olympics. The Indian star eliminated Kazakhstan’s Tomiris Myrzakul and she needs only one further step to win the title of the Elorda Cup against Kazakhstan’s Zhazira Urakbayeva.

Kazakhstan’s Asian U22 silver medallist Anel Sakysh moved back to the bantamweight (54kg) and she had an energetic performance against a former World Champion local veteran, Dina Zholaman. The 22-year-old Sakysh will be meeting for the title of the Elorda Cup with China’s Asian Games winner Chang Yuan.

Kazakhstan’s World silver medallist Karina Ibragimova and Morocco’s Widad Bertal both are using the 3rd Elorda Cup as a preparation for the Paris Olympics. The first eliminated a younger teammate, the Asian Youth Champion Viktoriya Baidukova, and she will face for the title of the featherweight (57kg) with the North African boxer.

Kazakhstan’s Viktoriya Grafeyeva is one of the new sensations at the women’s lightweight (60kg) who used her longer reach to beat several stars in the recent 18 months. The young talent delivered the main surprise of the day when she defeated China’s Asian Games winner Yang Wenlu therefore Grafeyeva will meet for the title India’s Manisha Moun.

China’s World Champions such as Yang Liu (66kg) and Li Qian (75kg) both eliminated their semi-final opponents, India’s Manju Bamboriya and Kazakhstan’s Aida Saribarova and they are finalists in Astana. Another World Champion, Kazakhstan’s Lazzat Kungeibayeva defeated an experienced Uzbek, Mokhira Abdullayeva today.
