Two quick knockouts in the Elorda Cup today

Two knockouts amazed the crowd in the third competition day of the 3rd Elorda Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan today.

The organizers of the Elorda Cup are the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Astana City and the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation. Kazakhstan has just hosted the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships and the Elorda Cup is their next event in Astana.

Kazakhstan’s World Champion Saken Bibossynov qualified for his second Olympic Games and last time he bagged a bronze in Tokyo. The 27-year-old experienced flyweight (51kg) boxer is in top shape and he demonstrated his various combinations against Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 Champion Mukhammadkodir Mamirjonov today.

The bantamweight (54kg) delivered several tight contests in the third competition day and among them Zhandaulet Sarsenbayev delivered the top sensation after beating Azerbaijan’s Nijat Huseynov who qualified for the Paris Olympics through Busto Arsizio. Two further Kazakhs such as Karim Serkebayev and Timur Kabdeshov both won their quarter-final bouts by split decisions.

Kazakhstan’s World Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan opened his preliminary campaign with a success in Astana and he continued his winning path against a top Uzbek, Khudoynazar Fayzov who returned to the national team after a break. The Bocskai Memorial Tournament winner Assylzhan Serikbay eliminated Japan’s Keita Nakayama in the next featherweight (57kg) quarter-final.

Uzbekistan’s Mirzabek Mirzakhalilov had a short disadvantage on the judges’ scorecards against India’s Kavinder Singh Bisht after three minutes but he opened the second round in different rhythm. The Indian had excellent international career in the past but Mirzakhalilov found the best distance and knocked out Singh in the second period.

Japan’s Sota Nakayama is a newcomer in the international competitions but he started the first round with strong jabs against Kazakhstan’s Asian Youth Champion Biybars Zheksen. The Japanese lightweight (60kg) boxer exceeded all of the previous expectations in this contest and he eliminated the Kazakh Elite National Champion today.

Iran’s Ali Habibinezhad is a member of their top national team and his fighting spirit was enough to eliminate Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Anarbayev at the light welterweight (63.5kg). Uzbekistan’s Asian bronze medallist Adkhamjon Mukhiddinov made the next show in Astana and bowed out a strong Japanese, Shunsuke Kitamoto.

Kyrgyzstan’s Shopokov Memorial Tournament winner Ikhtiyor Nishonov gave in everything to his welterweight (67kg) quarter-final battle against Kazakhstan’s Ilya Kalinin and he managed to get a medal in Astana. India’s Abhishek Yadav had also a strong performance today against a local boxer in this weight class, Rakhat Seitzhan.

Kazakhstan’s Timur Nurseitov, who landed a lethal punch against Uzbekistan’s Sardor Shomurodov at the middleweight (75kg), delivered the second KO triumph of the day. Uzbekistan’s World Championships bronze medallist Alokhon Abdullayev had an exciting contest against Kazakhstan’s Nurkanat Raiys in this weight class.
