Aibek Oralbay impressed at the super heavy weight in Astana

The second competition day was a longer session at the 3rd edition of the Elorda Cup in Astana where Aibek Oralbay and Tuohetaerbieke Tanglatihan proved their best.

The organizers of the Elorda Cup are the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Astana City and the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation. Kazakhstan has just hosted the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships and the Elorda Cup is their next event in Astana.

The women boxers will be able to compete from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the heavyweight (+81kg) in Astana. The male boxers will be boxing for the medals from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg).

The number of the female boxers is 68 in Astana and 110 male athletes will fight for the titles in the 3rd edition of the Elorda Cup.

Kazakhstan’s Anel Sakysh claimed a silver medal at the featherweight (57kg) in the recent ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships but she moved back to the bantamweight (54kg) and she opened her campaign successfully against Dametken Kelimbet. Kazakhstan’s veteran boxers in this weight class as Dina Zholaman and Saniya Sultankyzy both won their opening contests in this Elorda Cup.

Iran’s national team member Ali Habibinezhad had a crucial battle against Kazakhstan’s Yertugan Zeinullinov who also competed at the recent Asian Games. The Iranian light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer found the best fighting distance and his stamina paid off in the third round of their meeting.

Kazakhstan’s Asian Junior Champion Bakhtiyar Anarbayev is only 19 but he had a clear dominance against Tajikistan’s Romizi Sharifzoda at the light welterweight (63.5kg). The next host nation boxer in this weight category, Almat Abduali defeated a veteran Indian boxer, Shiva Thapa, a two-time Olympian athlete.

China’s Asian Games gold medallist Tuohetaerbieke Tanglatihan uses the Elorda Cup as preparations for the Paris Olympics and he managed to beat India’s Sanjay in the opener of the light heavyweight (80kg). Two Asian Youth Champions as Kazakhstan’s Ayatulla Takizhanov and Uzbekistan’s Rakhmatullo Boymatov both won their first contests in Astana.

Kazakhstan’s three-time Asian Champion and Asian Games bronze medallist Sagyndyk Togambay subdued Meirbek Mukhtarov and he stopped his opponent in the second round. China’s heavyweight (92kg) No.1, their Paris Olympian Han Xuezhen had a tight success over Kazakhstan’s Nurmagomed Yusupov. Aibek Oralbay qualified for the Olympic Games at the heavyweight (92kg) but he competes at the super heavyweight (+92kg) at the Elorda Cup. The 24-year-old boxer was too quick for Daniyal Saparbay while the star of the weight class, Kamshybek Kunkabayev had a clear success over Iran’s Rouzbeh Safari.
