ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships – Best U22 Female Boxer – Muskan

India’s Muskan is only 19-year-old but she was named as the Best Female U22 Boxer in the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana. She will be able to participate even at the 2027 edition of the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships as well.

India sent maximum number of 50 boxers to the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships and among them 12 claimed the titles in Kazakhstan’s capital city. Muskan, from the 2005 age group, was one of their gold medallists and a hidden treasure for the future.

Muskan was one of the Indian finalists at the 2022 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Amman from their powerful women’s youth national team. Muskan had the clear target in Amman to win the youth middleweight (75kg) as a newcomer in the youth squad. The Indian stopped Jordan’s Rasha Al-Shatti in the second round of their semi-final and she defeated Kazakhstan’s Aida Saribarova for the gold medal by referee stopped the bout.

Muskan won the national competitions in 2022 and she performed well enough in the Golden Gloves of Vojvodina Youth Tournament on that year. The Indian boxer achieved a bronze medal at the 2022 Youth World Boxing Championships in La Nucia and only the eventual winner, Sunniva Hofstad of Norway stopped her in the semi-finals. The Norwegian has qualified already for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as one of the top elite debutants at the women’s middleweight (75kg).

Muskan was also a favourite at the 2023 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, which was her last competition in that age group. Kazakhstan’s Asian Junior silver medallist Shugyla Nalibay caused the main surprise of the semi-finals with her unexpected success over Muskan therefore the Indian claimed only a bronze half year ago.

Muskan was selected to participate in the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Astana for the very first time in this age group. She had to meet in the final of the women’s middleweight (75kg) Uzbekistan’s two-time Asian Youth Champion Aziza Zokirova who is their elite national team member in this category and she used the competition in Astana to her preparation for the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. Aziza, who trains with her father Lazizbek Zokirov, did not find the range against India’s Muskan in the first round and she tried to use her strong jabs better in the second. Muskan, mobilized all of her remaining power and she was not only a competitive opponent in the final but surprisingly she won their title contest in Astana.
