Khodzhiyev, Satybaldy Uulu and Kazankapov were confident in Bishkek today

The final line-ups are revealed at the 46th Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan today.

Altogether 175 boxers are participating in the new edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Bishkek. The Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament is a perfect option for the elite boxers to use the event as preparation for the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will start in Bangkok, Thailand on May 23.

The event was named after Mr. Duisenkul Shopokov, the Kyrgyz hero of the Soviet Union who died during the Great Patriotic War at the Battle of Moscow in December 1941. The new Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will serve as a preparation event for the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

Sultan Asankul Uulu is a very small boxer at the minimumweight (48kg) but he has the extreme punching power in this category therefore he was the dominant against Durusbek Aitmatov. The 27-year-old boxer will now meet for the title of the weight class Russia’s Volodya Mnatsakanyan who eliminated Uzbekistan’s Khusanbay Mirasidov.

Anvarzhan Khodzhiyev won several international elite tournaments and he moved up to the flyweight (51kg) to compete in the upcoming 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. He was a hard target for his younger teammate, Bekzat Ergeshov and his tricky style of boxing delivered a success for the 22-year-old Khodzhiyev who will now face for the title Russia’s Bair Batlayev.

Kyrgyzstan’s young duo, Ryspek Bektenov and Turgunbek Imankadyrov faced in the semi-final at the lightweight (60kg) and their contest was a warm-up for the next events. Bektenov had the experience to beat his local rival and he will now face for the gold medal with Russia’s Arshak Tovmasyan.

Kyrgyzstan’s Asian Games quarter-finalist Askat Kultayev has brilliant technical skills and he waited for the best attacking moments in his light welterweight (63.5kg) semi-final against Kazakhstan’s Almaz Duisenkul. Their meeting was closer than the previous expectations but Kultayev managed his way to the final where Mirzokhid Imamnazarov will be his next rival.

Kyrgyzstan’s Asian Youth Champion Almaz Orozbekov felt the tempo better in the first round than his veteran opponent, Zhakshylyk Talaybekov. The teenager Orozbekov maintained the fighting distance well and he controlled all of the three rounds to box against Ikhtiyar Nishonov in the welterweight (67kg) final.

Kazakhstan’s first finalist in the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament became Bakbergen Aliaskarov who triumphed over Russia’s Sergei Sergeyev in the first semi-final of the middleweight (75kg). The 19-year-old Daniel Abdurakhmanov won the Kyrgyz battle in this weight class, he was slightly better than Sultan Asankul Uulu.

Sagyn Satybaldy Uulu, the Asian bronze medallist, controlled the first round against Atay Asanbekov and he finished their bout with heavy jabs in the second. The 20-year-old Kyrgyz light heavyweight (80kg) boxer advanced to the finals and he can expect a hard battle against Iran’s Asian Championships silver medallist Meysam Gheshlaghi.

Kazakhstan’s former Asian Youth Champion Aman Kazankapov used his routine to beat Uzbekistan’s Mukhadumar Bakhramov in the first semi-final at the cruiserweight (86kg). Kyrgyzstan’s Rio Olympian veteran Erkin Adylbek Uulu controlled all of the three rounds against his 13-years-younger teammate, Bekbol Murasbekov. Russia’s Ramazan Karnukayev landed the better shots in the semi-final of the super heavyweight (+92kg) against Iran’s Rouzbeh Safari in the first round. The Iranian had to go to the medical corner in the second and the ringside doctor finished their contest therefore Karnukayev needs only one further step to win the heaviest weight class against Kyrgyzstan’s Sarvorbek Saipov.
