The Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament opened with 49 bouts in Turkistan

The prestigious Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament started with 49 bouts in the city of Turkistan, Kazakhstan, in a fantastic venue.

The new edition of the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament is a preparation event for the upcoming ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships. Boxers who were born in 2006 or in 2007 are eligible to compete in the prestigious Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament.

Altogether 36 female and 186 male boxers are participating in the new edition of the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament. Several regions of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are competing in the new edition of the event.

The city of Turkistan is part of the UNESCO World Heritage and located in the South part of the country near to the boarder of Uzbekistan. The competition is dedicated to Mr. Bekzat Sattarkhanov who was gold medallist in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games but he died in a car crash a few months later of his glory before his 20th birthday.

Almaty’s Shakhaz Tairzhanova (54kg), Kyrgyzstan’s Medina Abyldayeva (57kg) and Almaty’s Sabina Alimkul (66kg) were the first winners in the competition on Day1. The strong trio defeated their rivals by RSC in the first round and all of them made strong start in the Sattarkhanov Memorial.

Kyrgyzstan’s Daniyar Zhaparov, and experienced local boxers such as Daulet Borankulov, Yerkosay Zholdasbay, Dulat Kuat and Ardak Abduali opened their campaigns at the men’s flyweight (51kg) successfully in the first day of boxing.

The men’s bantamweight (54kg) is the busiest weight class in the competition in Turkistan with the participation of 26 boxers. Nurmanzhan Nurbakyt, Yerassyl Tashmukhamedov, Shamshi Baltabay, Beibarys Almatuly, the experienced Beksultan Boranbek and Uzbekistan’s Kakhkhorjon Usubov impressed in this weight on Day1. Arystan Nurmagambet trains in the Pavlodar region and he had the excellent finish to stop a younger rival, Altair Duisebay at the light middleweight (71kg). Astana’s Ansar Beisov also used his strength to beat Tajikistan’s Shukhrat Inatov at the middleweight (75kg).
