Jalolov vs. Zokirov at the super heavyweight final in Baku
Strong Uzbek and Kazakh stars advanced to the finals of the Great Silk Way Tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The host of the competition is the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation which organized such huge events in the recent 15 years such as the World Men’s Elite Boxing Championships, the Youth World Boxing Championships and the European Games as well.
Host Azerbaijan, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are the participating eleven countries in the Great Silk Way Tournament in Baku. The competition is a preparation event for the upcoming 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be starting in Bangkok, Thailand on May 23.
Uzbekistan’s Shakhina Nematova is only 19-year-old but she was so confident against Azerbaijan’s Nargiz Zeynalova in the semi-finals of the women’s bantamweight (54kg). The Uzbek teenager will now meet another local boxer, Zeynab Rakhimova for the title of the Great Silk Way Tournament.
The winners at the men’s welterweight (67kg) advanced to the semi-finals in Baku and two of the young Asians won their contests on Day3. Uzbekistan’s 19-year-old Shavkatjon Boltayev stopped Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Smagulov after Iran’s Mehdi Amirizafar had a surprise success against Kyrgyzstan’s Asian Youth Champion Almaz Orozbekov.
Uzbekistan’s two-time Asian Champion Saidjamshid Jafarov was energetic against Russia’s Sergey Sergeyev and he marched to the semi-finals of the men’s middleweight (75kg). His teammate, the Youth World Champion Javokhir Ummataliyev eliminated another Uzbek boxer, Alisher Ayubov in the next quarter-final bout.
Rakhmatullo Boymatov walked over to the title bout against Hungary’s Istvan Kreko who suffered a hand injury in the quarter-finals. The Youth World Champion Fazliddin Erkinboyev moved up to the light heavyweight (80kg) and he won all of the three round against Azerbaijan’s Sarkhan Budagov which means the two Uzbek teenagers will meet for the title in Baku.
Kazakhstan’s Asian Games bronze medallist Sagyndyk Togambay is a fantastic heavyweight (92kg) boxer who landed his shots with excellent tempo against Russia’s Ramazan Khanaliyev at the heavyweight (92kg) semi-final. The 23-year-old boxer will now face for the gold medal Azerbaijan’s World Champion Loren Berto Alfonso in a top bout. The dream final at the super heavyweight (+92kg) has realized following the two Uzbek stars won their semi-finals in Baku. The Olympic Champion and World Champion Bakhodir Jalolov controlled his semi-final against Russia’s Ramazan Karnukayev while the Youth World Champion, the 20-year-old Jakhongir Zokirov walked over to the final.
