A sport legend, Mr. Purevdorj Serdamba is the new Secretary General in Mongolia
One of the legendary Asian boxers, Mr. Purevdorj Serdamba is the new Secretary General in the Mongolian Boxing Federation following his ancestor, Mr. Batnasan Tsoodol had to leave his office after the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.
Mr. Purevdorj Serdamba joined the Mongolian elite national team as a 19-year-old boxer in 2004 following his national titles in his homeland. He competed at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Mianyang, China in 2005 where he lost only to the eventual silver medallist of the 48kg weight class, Pal Bedak of Hungary.
The Mongolian youngster competed in various international tournaments in 2006 and moved up to the flyweight (51kg). Serdamba represented Team Mongolia in the exciting Asian Games in Doha, Qatar but his debut in the weight class was unsuccessful against Kazakhstan’s Mirat Sarsenbayev.
He competed at the 2007 World Boxing Championships in Chicago, United States as well which was his next important international experience. The Mongolian qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games through the 2nd Asian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which was held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The Beijing Olympic Games delivered one of his career highlights, a well-deserved silver medal which was a surprise in his 48kg weight class. He defeated Uganda’s Ronald Serugo, United States’ Luis Yanez, Thailand’s Amnat Ruenroeng and Cuba’s Yampier Hernandez and lost to only the Chinese legend, Zou Shiming in the final.\
Purevdorj Serdamba reached his next career highlight at the Milan 2009 AIBA World Boxing Championships where he defeated all of his five opponents including Russia’s David Ayrapetyan in the final. Following his Olympic silver medal and World title, he was not successful in his second Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
He earned a bronze medal AIBA World Boxing Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2011 which was a successful comeback and an Olympic quota for London. Serdamba lost to India’s Laishram Devender Singh in the Round of 16 at the London 2012 Olympic Games which was his last main international competition.
He finished his active boxing career in 2012 with impressive record and until today, he is one of the Mongolian icons in the sport. Following his active career in the sport, he had several roles in the management areas and he was appointed as the new Secretary General of the Mongolian Boxing Federation this week.
