The Asian boxers achieved eight new quotas for the Paris Olympics following the afternoon session in last competition day in Busto Arsizio. Vietnam and Jordan bagged their first boxing quotas in this 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bahrain, China, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, the Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the 26 participating Asian countries in Busto Arsizio.

Uzbekistan’s defending World Champion at the light welterweight (63.5kg), Ruslan Abdullayev faced Serbia’s ex-Russian Aleksej Sendrik in the key quota bout. The 20-year-old Serbian was a hard opponent for Abdullayev today but he bagged the first Asian quota in this World Olympic Qualifier.

Jordan’s Obada Al-Kasbeh has 12 years of routine in the international stage and he opened the first round against Moldova’s Alexandru Paraschiv with energetic attacks. The 30-year-old Jordanian put the taller Moldovan under pressure and his fantastic finish guaranteed his second quota after the Rio Olympics.

Tajikistan’s Asian Champion Bakhodur Usmonov and Japan’s Shion Nishiyama met for the next quota at the light welterweight (63.5kg) and he invested a lot of power to take the control in the first round. Usmonov used both of his hands effectively in the first and second rounds, which were enough to take his second quota after the Tokyo Olympics.

Uzbekistan’s World Championships bronze medallist Lazizbek Mullojonov had a tough heavyweight (92kg) rival for the quota, but he ruled the middle of the ring against Georgia’s European Champion Giorgiy Kushitashvili. The 25-year-old Uzbek kept the focus until the last moments, he had the speed advantage to earn an Olympic quota for Paris.

Kazakhstan’s Asian Champion Aibek Oralbay was patient in the first round against United States’ Jamar Talley and he landed his shots with perfect timing. The Kazakh heavyweight (92kg) boxer was punctual in the exchanges in the second round as well and he had the strong advantage on the judges’ scorecards. The US boxer was not able to find the solution in the third round therefore Aibek Oralbay became Kazakhstan’s second male quota owner.

Vietnam’s Vo Thi Kim Anh returned to the international events after one year and she was in excellent shape during the entire competition in Busto Arsizio. The Vietnamese bantamweight (54kg) boxer dominated the first round against Tunisia’s Islem Ferchichi and she was a hard target for the North African. Vo, the 2022 Thailand Open gold medallist, bagged Vietnam’s first Olympic quota for Paris with another outstanding performance.

Thailand’s World silver medallist Jutamas Jitpong had a tight disadvantage against United States’ Shera Mae Patricio after the first round but she switched into a higher tempo in the second. The Thai bantamweight (54kg) boxer was better in the second and her enthusiasm in the third round guaranteed her second Olympic quota after Tokyo.

Chinese Taipei’s World Champion and Asian Champion Chen Nien Chin was so motivated against Ukraine’s Anastasia Chernokolenko in the key welterweight (66kg) quota bout. Chen used her strong combinations against the Ukrainian who moved down two categories but she was not able to reach Chinese Taipei’s No.1 with her longer hands. Chen enjoyed the last round well enough and she bagged her nation’s fifth Olympic quota for Paris.
