Strong day for Jordan at the 1st World Olympic Qualifier

Jordan had excellent sessions in the fifth competition day at the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio, Italy.

Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bahrain, China, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, the Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the 26 participating Asian countries in Busto Arsizio.

Thailand’s World Championships silver medallist Jutamas Jitpong was not able to qualify for the Paris Olympics through the Asian Games but she is one of the stars at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) in Italy. The Tokyo Olympian boxer had to do her very best against Venezuela’s Johana Gomez and she defeated the strong South American by 3:2 split decision.

South Korea’s Im Ae Ji, the 2017 Youth World Champion, impressed in the afternoon session and she eliminated Denmark’s Melissa Mortensen with a great finish. Another Asian star at the women’s bantamweight (54kg), the two-time World Champion Huang Hsiao Wen of Chinese Taipei kept Chile’s Denisse Bravo on long and she joined the best 16.

Japan’s Mikoto Harada is a new addition to their national team at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) but she impressed in the fifth day of boxing in Busto Arsizio. The 20-year-old Japanese was too smart for Philippines’ Claudine Veloso who switched from kick-boxing and other martial arts to our sport.

Another Filipina was more successful in the fifth competition day, their former World Champion and Olympic Games silver medallist Nesthy Petecio succeeded at the women’s featherweight (57kg). She had the same fighting style as Romania’s Claudia Nechita but Petecio was better in that game and she joined the last 16.

Thailand’s Preedakamon Tintabthai was a surprise bronze medallist the 2022 Women’s World Boxing Championships and since then she moved up to the featherweight (57kg). She replaced Nilawan Techasuep and Porntip Buapa in the team and she had a great finish to beat Azerbaijan’s Mahsati Hamzayeva-Aghamaliyeva today.

Xu Zichun is the lone Chinese female boxer who did not qualify for the Paris Olympics yet but she made a strong step on this road. The Chinese featherweight (57kg) boxer outpointed a Tokyo Olympian boxer, Nikolina Cacic of Croatia and she won all of the rounds on the judges’ scorecards.

Turkmenistan’s Asian Youth Championships silver medallist Saparmyrat Odayev is one of the surprises at the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) in Busto Arsizio where he won his third contest today. The 23-year-old Turkmen had unpredictable movements and his footwork was the difference between him and Finland’s Ismail Umar.

Tajikistan’s Bakhodur Usmonov, the 2019 Asian Champion, was smarter than Morocco’s veteran Abdelhaq Nadir and he managed to win his next contest in Busto Arsizio. Jordan’s Obada Al-Kasbeh and Iran’s Ali Habibinezhad both defeated strong rivals in the same light welterweight (63.5kg) during the evening session.

Kyrgyzstan’s Syrgak Abdyzhapar Uulu spent the previous weeks in the Spanish International Training Camp and he replaced Nuradin Rustambek Uulu at the light middleweight (71kg). The Kyrgyz boxer started the first round better than Croatia’s Petar Kresimir Knezevic and he was able to continue the same hard work until the last gong.

Uzbekistan’s World Champion Asadkhudja Muydinkhudjayev was expecting a hard battle against Germany’s Magomed Schachidov in the Round of 32 at the men’s light middleweight (71kg). The 23-year-old Uzbek controlled most of the exchanges against the experienced German and won their meeting while his Asian Champion heavyweight (92kg) teammate, Lazizbek Mullajonov stopped his Lithuanian rival on Day5.

Jordan’s Tokyo Olympian Zeyad Eshaish spent a short time in the ring against Philippines’ Ronald Chavez Jr. due to his decisive combinations in the first round of their light middleweight (71kg) meeting. His teammate, Odai Riyad Al-Hindawi is a veteran boxer at the heavyweight (92kg) but his stamina was enough to beat Mexico’s Carlos Rodriguez.
