China impressed in the women’s quarter-finals at the Strandja Memorial Tournament
The female winners of the fifth competition day at the 75th edition of the Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria, all advanced to the semi-finals. The Chinese women boxers proved outstanding performance once again, winning their strong quarter-finals in Sofia.
India’s Nikhat Zareen, the two-time World Champion, uses the Strandja Memorial Tournament as preparations for the Paris Olympic Games. The Indian had a great success over a strong and experienced French boxer, Wassila Lkhadiri on Day5 and she is a guaranteed medallist at the light flyweight (50kg).
China’s Wu Yu and Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat met in the final of the light flyweight (50kg) in the recent Asian Games. The Chinese boxer analysed her strong Thai rival well enough to beat Raksat once again on their re-match and she also joined the semi-finals in this strong weight class.
Sabina Bobokulova is a multiple Asian Champion Uzbek talent who will turn to only 21 this year but she has plenty of international experiences. The young Uzbek followed her coach’s Mr. Ulugbek Baratov’s instructions and she had the strong finish to eliminate a former Youth World Champion local boxer, Venelina Poptoleva.
China’s Chang Yuan moved up to the bantamweight (54kg) which was an excellent decision from the former Youth Olympic Champion. Her return to the international stage in this weight class, strengthened the Asian Games and she managed to beat a Mongolian, the World silver medallist Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg in Sofia.
Tajikistan’s Mizhgona Samadova earned a bronze medal at the Asian Games and she qualified for the Olympic Games. Since then, the Tajik featherweight (57kg) girl is shining and she proved her strength against a super talented opponent, Poland’s European U22 Champion Julia Szeremeta, winning the bout by unanimous decision.
Khumorabonu Mamajonova robbed into the boxing world in 2023 when she won a national event in Uzbekistan. The featherweight (57kg) talent exceeded her level once again when she eliminated India’s former Youth World Champion Sakshi Choudhary in their meeting at the Strandja Memorial Tournament.
Thailand’s Thananya Somnuek bowed out another big puncher, Kosovo’s World bronze medallist Donjeta Sadiku and she managed her way to the semi-finals of the lightweight (60kg). China’s Yang Wenlu eliminated another top rival, France’s European Games winner Amina Zidani in the same weight category using her brilliant technical skills. The women’s middleweight (75kg) is another strong category in this Strandja Memorial Tournament where China’s World Champion Li Qian is the main favourite. She defeated Nigeria’s Patricia Mbata in the quarter-finals but Thailand’s Asian U22 Champion Baison Manikon also joined the last four.
