Chen Nien Chin and Turabek Khabibullayev were named as the best boxers at the Boxam Tournament

Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien Chin and Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullayev were named as the Best Boxers of the Boxam Elite Tournament in Spain.

The 25 finals delighted the competition in La Nucia, Alicante region in Spain and altogether 11 countries claimed gold medals in the traditional event. Altogether 208 boxers competed from 30 countries in this impressive tournament from four Confederations.

Kazakhstan’s Nazym Kyzaibay, the two-time World Champion, eliminated Spain’s World Championships bronze medallist Laura Fuertes in the last four and she met Philippines’ Aira Villegas for the title of the light flyweight (50kg). Kyzaibay started the first round slowly but she turned up the heat in the second when she started to move more on feet. Villegas received the right instructions in the corner and her fantastic third round made a U-turn for the boxer from the Philippines.

Aigerim Sattibayeva and Anel Sakysh also claimed silver medals from Team Kazakhstan but their flyweight (52kg) boxer, Zhazira Urakbayeva succeeded in her final in La Nucia. The 24-year-old Kazakh controlled most of the exchanges against a French teenager, Kaelya Mopin and she won her nation’s first title in the Boxam Tournament. A former World Champion, Lazzat Kungeibayeva secured the next gold medal for Kazakhstan in this strong event.

A dream final has accomplished at the women’s featherweight (57kg), where two World Champions such as Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao Wen and Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio met for the gold medal. The two-time World Champion Huang’s longer hands are always difficult to all boxers but Petecio reduced the fighting distance successfully several times and she made a surprise in this final contest.

Chinese Taipei’s World Champion Chen Nien Chin competed this time at the light middleweight (70kg) but she was too strong for Kazakhstan’s Madina Nurshayeva today and she earned a title after Huang’s and Wu’s silver medals. Philippines’ Hergie Bacyadan returned to the national team after a short break and her heavy combinations decided her middleweight (75kg) final against Kazakhstan’s Gulsaya Yerzhan.

Uzbekistan’s Mujibullo Tursunov, the Strandja Memorial Tournament winner, had a few difficulties in the first round of the final against India’s Amit Kumar but he changed into a world-class tempo in the second. The 24-year-old Uzbek landed shots from all of the possible angles and he won the final of the light welterweight (63.5kg) by unanimous decision.

Kyrgyzstan’s Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu met in the final of the lightweight (60kg) a very tall boxer, Mali’s Abdoul Karim Bathily but the Central Asian had the boxing knowledge to win this contest in La Nucia. Another fantastic Asian boxer, Kan Chia Wei of Chinese Taipei won also a non-Olympic category, the middleweight (75kg) over Poland’s Michal Jarlinski. One of the promising Uzbeks, Khavasbek Asadullayev defeated a top Mexican, the Panamerican Games winner Marco Verde at the light middleweight (71kg) final. Uzbekistan’s next finalist, Turabek Khabibullayev enjoyed his return to Spain where he won the Youth World title in 2022 and repeated that performance in the light heavyweight (80kg) final against Spain’s Pablo Coy.
