Stars as Vokhidov, Usmonov and Negmatulloyev defended their thrones at the Tajikistan Elite National Championships
The thirteen male finals delighted the crowd at the Tajikistan Elite National Championships in their capital city in Dushanbe.
Altogether 175 boxers attended in the Tajikistan Elite National Championships which was their next selection competition for the upcoming 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. Two of the Tajiks, such as Mizhgona Samadova and Davlat Boltayev have already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games through the Asian Games.
Among the male boxers, the welterweight (67kg) was the busiest in the Tajikistan Elite National Championships with 13 boxers on the board. The men’s bantamweight (54kg), the featherweight (57kg), the light welterweight (63.5kg), the light middleweight (71kg) and the super heavyweight (+92kg) were also popular categories in this national event.
The main favourite at the men’s flyweight (51kg) as Dushanbe’s 21-year-old Mekhron Shafiyev defeated all his rivals by RSC in the Nationals including Mekhrob Khamidov and Mamed Jumakhonov as well.
The former Junior World Champion and World Elite quarter-finalist Asror Vokhidov of Sughd region faced his main national rival, Khusravkhon Rakhimov in the final of the featherweight (57kg) but his rhythm dominated this contest.
Bakhodur Usmonov, the 2019 ASBC Asian Champion and Tokyo Olympian, did not qualify for Paris yet but he is in top shape and he controlled his light welterweight (63.5kg) final over Fayzali Gulomov of Dushanbe.
Nekruz Salimov, the World Championships competitor Dovud Makhkamov, the veteran Sharaf Davlatov and Rasul Akhadov were the main favourites at the light middleweight (71kg) but a new face, Shakhobjon Shukurov won the title finally.
Shabbos Negmatulloyev, the Tokyo Olympian, had to use up all of his 10 years of international experience to beat the strong rivals in the semi-finals and finals of the light heavyweight (80kg), but he was able to beat Abdumalik Boltayev and Shakhboz Khaitov.
In the absence of the Asian Games winner Davlat Boltayev, Dushanbe’s Bakhman Rasulov claimed the gold medal at the heavyweight (92kg) while the ASBC Asian bronze medallist super tall Mukhammad Abroridinov won the heaviest weight class in Dushanbe.
Khatlon region’s Merojiddin Barotov became the new winner at the minimumweight (48kg), while the 19-year-old Meroj Zoidov also impressed in one of the non-Olympic categories, at the bantamweight (54kg) in the Nationals.
Another 19-year-old boxer, Abubakr Murodzoda won the title of the lightweight (60kg) after beating Saidmirzomuddin Mirzoyev unanimously. Experienced international boxers such as Saidikrom Amonov (67kg), Bakhtiyor Mirzomukhammadi (75kg) and Parviz Karimov (86kg) were the further gold medallists in Dushanbe.
