Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu eliminated his main rival in the semi-finals of the Mongolian National Championships

The final line-ups are confirmed at the Mongolian Elite National Championships in Ulaanbaatar where the 2021 ASBC Asian Champion Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu eliminated his main rival, Gantumur Lundaa.

The competition is a selection event for the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be held in Busto Arsizio, Italy from February 29, 2024. The Mongolians are planning to join several competitions before the World Qualifier to prepare well enough to the main competition.

The Mongolian women boxers impressed in the previous competitions and their new Paris 2024 Olympian, the 22-year-old Yesugen Oyuntsetseg eliminated a teenager, Sodon-Od Binderiya in the semi-finals of the light flyweight (50kg). The strong Oyuntsetseg will now meet for the gold medal Byeisyenbei Janargul, another U22 boxer.

The World medallist Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg moved up to the women’s bantamweight (54kg) and she eliminated Erdenedalai Michidmaa in a superb contest. The 28-year-old boxer will be boxing for the title of the weight class with another World medallist boxer, Enkhjargal Munguntsetseg who bowed out Balsan Mungunsaran in a hectic semi-final.

The dream final at the women’s welterweight (66kg) has realized between the two top seeds, Myagmarsuren Tsetsegdari and Ganzorig Badmaarag following both of them stopped their semi-final opponents in the fifth day of boxing.

The men’s flyweight (51kg) is another strong category in the Mongolian National Championships where the veteran and former Olympian Gan-Erdene Gankhuyag eliminated the ASBC bronze medallist Seed No.1, Orkhontungalag Unubold. The 30-year-old Gankhuyag joined the final of the National Championships and he can expect another hard battle against Aldarkhishig Battulga.

The men’s featherweight (57kg) delivered also another world-class battle already in the semi-final stage of the championships. The 2021 ASBC Asian Champion Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu had to do his very best to eliminate another Asian medallist boxer, Gantumur Lundaa. The 31-year-old former Olympian Kharkhuu will now face with Dorjnyambuu Ganbold for the title of the weight class. 

The men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) is another exciting category in the Mongolian Nationals and the two finalists will be Buyandalai Bayarkhuu and Enkhtur Tegshjargal. The World Championships bronze medallist Battumur Misheelt moved up to the light middleweight (71kg) where he is relatively small in comparison to his opponents. Misheelt had a tough semi-finals against Erdenetsogt Bat-Ulzii and he will have another powerful opponent, Otgonbaatar Byamba-Erdene in the final.
