The women’s bantamweight is the strongest in the Mongolian National Championships which turned into its medal phase
The Mongolian Elite National Championships turned to its important medal phase after four sessions in Ulaanbaatar. The women’s bantamweight (54kg) is the strongest category in the National Championships and the best four remained in actions.
The competition is a selection event for the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be held in Busto Arsizio, Italy from February 29, 2024. The Mongolians are planning to join several competitions before the World Qualifier to prepare well enough to the main competition.
Yesugen Oyuntsetseg has qualified already for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games but she decided to compete in the Mongolian National Championships. The 22-year-old Olympian joined the last four in the event alongside with other international boxers as Sodon-Od Binderiya, Altanbek Khulan and Byeisyenbei Janargul.
The women’s bantamweight (54kg) is seriously strong in the National Championships, the World Championships medallist Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg moved up to this category as well. Another World medallist, Enkhjargal Munguntsetseg proved her very best during the quarter-finals but Erdenedalai Michidmaa and Balsan Mungunsaran are also top international boxers who joined the semi-finals.
The ASBC Asian Championships silver medallist Nomin-Erdene Tugsjargal is only 20-year-old but she is one of the Mongolian aces in female boxing. She moved back to the featherweight (57kg) and she eliminated Erdenebileg Tsendsuren in the fourth session of the National Championships.
Namuun Monkhor, another ASBC medallist experienced female boxer, switched with Nomin-Erdene and she returned to the lightweight (60kg) after the Asian Games. The 24-year-old boxer has eight years of international experience and she stopped her opponent in Ulaanbaatar, Erdene-Ochir Khajidsuren.
The two stars of the women’s welterweight (66kg) such as Myagmarsuren Tsetsegdari and Ganzorig Badmaarag are both still in the U22 age group but with plenty of international experiences. The Asian Games competitor Erdenetuya Enkhbaatar and Erdenetsogt Namuun are the main gold medal contenders at the women’s middleweight (75kg).
The four seeded boxers at the men’s flyweight (51kg) all advanced to the semi-finals in the National Championships. The ASBC medallist Orkhontungatalag Unubold, the former Olympian veteran Gankhuyag Gan-Erdene, Lkhagvadorj Davaadorj and Aldarkhishig Battulga are in the semi-finals to decide the final ranking.
The men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) is another strong category in the Mongolian National Championships where Tulga Oyunbaatar, Buyandalai Bayarkhuu, Munkhbaatar Tsagaanbaatar and Enkhtur Tugsjargal are in the last four. The World Championships bronze medallist Battumur Misheelt impressed in his new category, at the light middleweight (71kg) in Ulaanbaatar.
