Twenty-five Asian boxers advanced to the finals at the Junior World Boxing Championships
Twenty-five Asian boxers advanced to the finals of the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan, Armenia during the eighth competition day.
India impressed in the whole competition and record number of their 12 boxers advanced to the finals of the Junior World Boxing Championships.
Uzbekistan’s top male junior boxers missed the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Astana but in Yerevan they were in top shape in the semi-finals and secured seven final places on Day8.
Kazakhstan will have four finalists this time while Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan both won one semi-final bouts in Yerevan.
Boxers who were born in 2007 and in 2008 are eligible to participate in the Junior World Boxing Championships. Afghanistan, Chinese Taipei, India, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Qatar, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan sent their boxers from the Asian continent.
Uzbekistan’s Maftuna Musurmonova, the Asian Junior Champion at the women’s pinweight (46kg), became the first finalist in the entire championships. The 15-year-old Uzbek eliminated Spain’s Claudia Alcaniz and she will meet now for the title Russia’s Anastasia Tiunina.
Firuzjon Sadullayev (60kg), Khikmatillo Ulmasov (63kg) and Islam Salikhov (+80kg) all won their semi-finals with confident performance in Yerevan on Day8 and the three Uzbeks marched to the finals. Their final opponents will be from Armenia, Ireland and India but these three strong boxers have the realistic chance to take the titles as well.
India’s Payal (48kg), Amisha Kerketta (54kg) and Prachi Tokas (+80kg) are new faces in their women’s junior national squads but all of them secured their places in the finals. The ASBC Asian Junior Champion Vini demonstrated her power in the semi-finals against Greece’s experienced Ouriana Kantzari and she will meet for the gold medal Uzbekistan’s strong Sevara Mamatova.
Kazakhstan’s Nurassyl Tulebek became their lone male junior finalist in Yerevan after his success over Poland’s Igor Soczowka at the bantamweight (54kg). Three of their girls such as Ayazhan Sydyk (54kg), Tolganay Kassymkhan (60kg) and Aisulu Mukhit (66kg) also won their semi-final contests in the Armenian capital.
Tajikistan has two strong junior female boxers and one of them, Farinoz Abdulloyeva managed to win her next contest as well and joined the finals. She defeated Poland’s Antonina Hader in the quarter-final and she continued her winning path against Kazakhstan’s Aisha Sariyeva at the light bantamweight (52kg).
Kyrgyzstan’s Dilerbek Sadirov finally earned a bronze medal at the featherweight (57kg), but their No.1, Amantur Dzhumayev advanced to the finals of the light bantamweight (52kg) in Yerevan. The ASBC Asian Junior Champion Kyrgyz defeated Russia’s Maksim Chaplygin in the previous stage of boxing and Poland’s Oskar Grodzicki was also not able to stop Dzhumayev today. The finals will be held in two competition days at the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships on December 3 and 4.
