Pang Chol Mi and Li Qian are the next gold medallists at the Asian Games

DPR Korea’s Pang Chol Mi and China’s Li Qian won the next gold medals in the afternoon session at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu Ting, the two-time World Champion, is in top shape in this Asian Games and following her next success, she joined the final of the women’s featherweight (57kg). Lin controlled all of the three rounds against India’s Parveen Hooda in this semi-final bout and she managed to win this fight unanimously. Lin will be meeting for the title of the competition Kazakhstan’s defending Asian Champion Karina Ibragimova who eliminated Tajikistan’s Mizhgona Samadova today.

Thailand’s Thitisan Panmod qualified for the Tokyo Olympics but he was unable to compete there due to his injury. The 23-year-old Thai opened the first round of the semi-final effectively against DPR Korea’s So Chon Ryong and he had the clear advantage on the scorecards. The North Korean was a competitive opponent in this hard battle but Panmod had the great finish to secure his Olympic spot at the men’s flyweight (51kg). His final opponent will be Uzbekistan’s Olympic Champion Hasanboy Dusmatov who had a remarkable success over Japan’s Tomoya Tsuboi.

Philippines’ Eumir Felix Marcial knocked out his previous rival, Thailand’s Weerapon Jongjoho and he repeated the same in the semi-final of the light heavyweight (80kg). The 28-year-old Olympic bronze medallist landed his lethal shot in the second round against Syria’s Ahmad Ghossoun and qualified for Paris 2024. Marcial’s second KO success delighted the Philippines and he will now meet for the gold medal China’s World silver medallist Tuohetaerbieke Tanglatihan.

DPR Korea’s Pang Chol Mi returned to the international events in top form and her debut at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) was a fantastic comeback. The North Korean had to meet China’s Chang Yuan in a repeat final of the last Asian Games from Jakarta which was a tight contest five years ago. Chang won that final battle in 2018 but the North Korean was more prepared from her technique and Pang used the best strategy in this gold medal contest. Pang’s performance in the second and third rounds were decisive and she won the third title of the Asian Games. China’s Li Qian was silver medallist already at the 2014 Asian Games and since then, she won gold medals in the World Championships and a silver in the Tokyo Olympics. The Chinese middleweight (75kg) boxer marched to the final with confident style of boxing and she faced India’s World Champion Lovlina Borgohain for the title. Li Qian landed her punches from her best distance in this chess game and she won China’s second female gold medal in Hangzhou.
