Team UAE leaves to China to make the final preparations for the Asian Games
The United Arab Emirates’ boxing squad leaves to China for the final preparation of the Asian Games to acclimatize to the local environment.
Mr. Hasan Mukhamedov, the Uzbek head coach of the UAE national team, selected four boxers to participate in the Asian Games. UAE has never achieved any medals in the history of the Asian Games in boxing yet but the country progressed in the previous years.
The UAE Open Boxing Championships was held in Abu Dhabi last week which supported some of their boxers to have ring experience just before the start of the Asian Games.
Sultan Al-Nuaimi, a 30-year-old veteran who proved his strong progress in the recent competitions including at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Dubai. He will represent Team UAE at the flyweight (51kg) in Hangzhou and Al-Nuaimi could be competitive to the best of the category as well.
Nawwaf Al-Zahmi turned 20 this summer and the young boxer has four years of international experiences. He made his debut at the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Fujairah in 2019 and he competed in the annual Arab Sports Games well.
Husain Alkandari represented UAE in the last edition of the Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships and the 28-year-old boxer received the right to compete in the next major event of the year as well. He is one of the most experienced team member who moved up to the light middleweight (71kg) this year.
Mohammed Al-Hefetti earned a valuable silver medal in the UAE Open, he lost to only one of the stars of the regions, Bahrain’s Tokyo Olympian Denys Latypov. The 19-year-old super heavyweight (+92kg) boxer is a newcomer in the national team but he has strong fighting spirits.
