The UAE Open Boxing Championships started with 20 bouts in Abu Dhabi

The new edition of the UAE Open Boxing Championships are running in three age groups in Abu Dhabi this weekend. The competition opened with 20 contests including twelve elites, six junior and two youth battles on Day1. ASBC Secretary General Mr. Ali Salameh and ASBC Competition Director Mr. Bassam Ghanem are both are at the venue and follow the bouts of the UAE Open Boxing Championships.

The UAE Open Boxing Championships is scheduled for both genders and the boxers in the elite, youth and junior age groups. Boxers who were born in 2007 and 2008 are eligible to compete in the junior level, the older 2005 and 2006 born talents have the right to participate in the youth age group. The 1983-2004 born boxers have the eligibility to fight in the elite weight categories.

Three contests were held at the junior bantamweight (54kg) in the first competition day and among them, Qatar’s Omar Al-Sanusi made a strong debut following his success over Dhruv Aeora, winning the bout unanimously.

Neel Depala won one of the closest contests in the junior age group, he defeated Ahmed Abdullah at the featherweight (57kg) by 3:2 split decision. Ahmed Abed Aziz won his contest at the junior light middleweight (70kg) in the same way, he was slightly better than Amro Zayed in their exciting contest.

Abdullah Saif Al-Shihi delighted the fans of Abu Dhabi following his strong performance in the youth light welterweight (63.5kg). The 17-year-old boxer landed the stronger shots and his opponent, Abdulrahman Nassar abandoned their contest in the second round.

UAE’s woman prospect, Huda Sajjal lives and trains in Abu Dhabi and she won the lone female contest over the talented Rahma Al-Murshidi of the first session. She had 20:18 advantage in all of the judges’ scorecards after two rounds but she landed the strong punches to finish her bout in the third.

The elite male boxers were busy at the light welterweight (63.5kg), light middleweight (71kg), middleweight (75kg), light heavyweight (80kg) and heavyweight (92kg) on Day1. UAE’s World Boxing Championships competitor Hussain Alkandari (71kg), Iraq’s Amer Mohammed Al-Hasan (80kg) and Bahrain’s Ali Jaafar Asad won their contests by large margin of differences.
