Turkmenistan’s Olympian Arslanbek Achilov will return at the Asian Games

Turkmenistan will send a five-strong team to the boxing tournament of the Asian Games and all of them are experienced in the international stage. The Islamic Solidarity Games winner heavyweight star Arslanbek Achilov and Zarip Jumayev will return to the national squad during the Asian Games.
Turkmenistan earned three bronze medals in the history of the Asian Games, their first strong achievement was taken by Bekmyrat Durdyyev at the 1994 edition in Hiroshima which was the country’s debut in the multisport event. Aziz Bebitov and the 2009 ASBC Asian Champion Serdar Hudayberdyyev earned two further bronze medals for Turkmenistan at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games.
Turkmenistan returned to the international events after two and half years of break at the 2022 Elorda Cup 15 months ago. Their boxers competed at the FISU University Boxing World Cup and at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman last year. Turkmenistan sent boxers to both World Boxing Championships in 2023, their male and female teams competed in New Delhi and in Tashkent.
Arslanbek Achilov bagged a gold medal at the heavyweight in the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games and he was an Olympian boxer at the Rio 2016 Games. Achilov has 13 years of experiences in the international competitions and he decided to return to the national team to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Zarip Jumayev is the only boxer from Turkmenistan who was able to beat a Cuban boxer since the country became independent in 1991. Jumayev was not active in the previous years but he returned to the competitions a few months ago and the 31-year-old boxer will represent Turkmenistan at the featherweight (57kg).
Hursant Imankuliyev had a brilliant year in 2018 when he earned a gold medal at the Feliks Stamm Memorial Tournament and he reached the quarter-final at the Jakarta Asian Games. Imankuliyev has fantastic technical skills and footwork and after his injury, he returned to the international events on May 2023.
Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov is one of the youngest sensations in Turkmenistan, the 21-year-old boxer won several contests in the last ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and the World Boxing Championships as well. Joining Turkmenistan’s best boxers, Baky Toychyyev has been also selected to compete in Hangzhou. He is a 25-year-old boxer at the super heavyweight (+92kg) and he spent six years in the elite national team.
