The Toyo University dominated the final at the 77th Japan University National Boxing Championships

The finals of the 77th edition of the Japan University National Boxing Championships were finished and the Toyo University became the overall winner. The Toyo University, the winner of the Kanto University Boxing League, annihilated the Kansai League’s gold medallist squad, the Doshisha University, winning the team final 11:0.

The final match of Kanto University Boxing League was held at the Korakuen Hall, in Suidobashi, Tokyo a few weeks ago and the Toyo University impressed once again. The Toyo University won the first division of the Kanto University Boxing League for the second consecutive year and third time in their history.

The East part of Japan, the Kanto University Boxing League had different divisions, the male teams can fight from the minimumweight up to the middleweight. The league was sponsored by the Kanto Boxing Federation and organized all of the division matches. The winner of the West part, the Kansai Boxing League was the Doshisha University this year and the two champions met each other for a respective final.

Shodai Koto won a key contest for the Toyo University, he had a super talented opponent at the light flyweight, the Youth World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Motoki Sadahiro but he had the routine to handle the tactical issues. Toyo University’s Shogo Tanaka represented Japan in the last major championships therefore he was too experienced for Shin Akutagawa in the next bout.

Another strong boxer from the Toyo University, Shunpei Kimura stopped Konori Hosokawa in the third round before the final gong. The Toyo University’s star, the Youth World Champion Reito Tsutsumi proved that he is back on track and dominated his contest against Yuma Yamaguchi of Doshisha University.

Neo Ohara had one of the closest successes in this 77th University National Boxing Championships, he defeated Kenshin Yamamura only by split decision. Kenshin Yura was bronze medallist at the 2017 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and he delivered the next success for the Toyo University after beating Koki Morishima.

A former ASBC Asian Junior Champion, Sora Tanaka of Toyo University used his extreme power to smash Kota Shinomiya and the referee stopped their unequal contest in the second round. Toyo University’s Ryusei Kurobe was the last winner of the team final, he had a narrow success over Doshisha’s Seiya Yamagishi.
