Singapore’s No.1, Danisha Mathialagan dominated her final at the 1st Syed Abdul Kadir Boxing Championships

The finals of the Syed Abdul Kadir Boxing Championships were held at the Bedok Sports Hall in Singapore. The competition was the first edition and Singapore’s best female boxer Danisha Mathialagan shined in her final bout.

Boxers who were born between 1983 and 2004 were eligible to participate in this new elite competition in Singapore. The Singapore Boxing Federation was established in 1929 and it is one of the oldest Asian National Boxing Federations which is responsible for the small country’s boxing life.

One of the experienced Asian ITOs and officials, Mr. Syed Abdul Kadir is the President of the Singapore Boxing Federation since long time but unfortunately he has a serious illness. The management of Singapore Boxing decided to launch a new competition under his name to introduce his amazing boxing career to inspire the new generations.

Mr. Syed Abdul Kadir was active in the international boxing between 1970 and 1977 and following his impressive results, he became Singapore’s best boxer until today. Mr. Syed Abdul Kadir represented his country in the smallest category, at the light flyweight (48kg) in the 1970s including the Olympic Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and the Asian Boxing Championships.

Danisha Mathialagan is Singapore’s best woman boxer who won her opener at the annual Women’s World Boxing Championships as well. The light flyweight (50kg) boxer used the Syed Abdul Kadir Boxing Championships as last preparation event before the Asian Games and she dominated her final against Inggrid Dayanti.

Two exciting contests took place at the men’s flyweight (51kg) where the first winner was a new ace, Chan Yun Xin. He was followed another newcomer, Joyson Kuniswara who stopped Andrey Corrales following his heavy shots.

The bantamweight (54kg) was not enough strong in Singapore in the previous years but Dylan Teng could be their future solutions who defeated Teo Wei Jin in the final. Tan Siyu was too smart for Mohamed Harun and he earned the gold medal at the men’s featherweight (57kg). Another notable winner was Fariz Rozarli at the light heavyweight (80kg), he won this final against Elkan Chan by RSC.

Singapore will send one boxer to the upcoming Asian Games and it will be their comeback to this level after a break.
