Bhutan trains with Nepal and India in Punjab state

A joint training camp is holding between Bhutan, Nepal and India’s Punjab state which is part of their preparation for the Asian Games. The training camp began on August 16 and the teams train together in Punjab until the 31st in order to be in good shape during the boxing tournament of the Asian Games.

All of the boxers are able to do their workouts and meet quality opponents in the training camp which contains selected boxers from these nations. The joint training camp contains continuous sparring sessions in Punjab and a strong exemplar of the international cooperation.

Tenzin Drugyel is one of the most developed boxers from Bhutan who competed in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman and he was highly competitive against the best ones as well.

Tashi Yoezer moved up to the featherweight (57kg) and he impressed in the sparring sessions in Punjab. Dorji Wangdi is their best light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer in the team who competed in the last edition of the Asian Games in Jakarta as well.

Sangay Thinley (60kg) joined the training camp and he also progressed this year as all of his compatriots in Bhutan. Migma Dorji (48kg) competed at the 2017 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and he received the chance to increase his skills in this camp. Tandin Wangchuk (60kg) is another young talent in Team Bhutan who competed in the junior and youth international competitions in the late 2010s.

The head coach of the Bhutan national boxing team, Mr. Trashe Phinso leads the squad in Punjab and he follows the sparring sessions. He worked hard in the recent seven years to build up a strong elite team in Bhutan with the support of their National Federation and the Asian Boxing Confederation.

Bhutan and Nepal arranged several national competitions, international training camps and invested many efforts to be in top shape in the Asian Games. Nepal will send 13 boxers to Hangzhou while Bhutan’s best three athletes will be there at the Asian Games.
