Pakistan used new training methods on their preparations to the Asian Games

Pakistan will compete in the boxing event of the Asian Games with five boxers and the South Asian country plans to regain their place among the top nations and earn a boxing medal, the first since the 2014 Incheon edition. Pakistan impressed in the Busan 2002 Asian Games but since then only their currently professional star, Muhammad Waseem was able to take a bronze medal in 2014.

The head coach of the Pakistani national boxing team, a former boxer, Mr. Arshad Hussain implemented new elements to their preparations and their boxers are in physically strong shape. Pakistan changed its training method with innovative approach to increase the fitness and the physical conditions.

The national team received multivitamins from the National Federation to use them during the whole preparation period. The Pakistani boxing team started the preparation at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad in June 20.

Pakistan’s female boxing turned to a new era in 2016 when the country joined the South Asian Games in India. Fatima Zahra competed in all of the recent national competitions with successes and she will be Pakistan’s lone female boxer in the Asian Games.

Pakistan’s No.1, Zohaib Rasheed was a historic medallist in two ASBC Championships, firstly he claimed a bronze medal at the 2022 ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Tashkent. Secondly, he was also bronze medallist at the 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan but he will box one division higher, at the flyweight (51kg) in Hangzhou.

National Champions and promising male boxers such as Muhammad Qasim (57kg), Muhammad Ibrahim (63.5kg) and a former Asian Games competitor, Mehmood Sanaullah (+92kg) have been involved to the male team as well.

The team will go to China four days before the start of the Asian Games to acclimatize to the local environment and do the final preparations in the venue. Pakistan will send 222 athletes including 62 females in 25 different sports to the upcoming Asian Games.
