Duman and Yermolenko taste KO victories in the semi-finals of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament

The last part of the semi-finals took place in the fourth competition day at the 23rd edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament in Kostanay, North Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan’s international boxers in the heavier weight classes, Nurzhan Duman and Ivan Yermolenko knocked out their semi-final opponents.

Altogether 108 boxers are participating in the new edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament in Kostanay. The Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament is a strong men’s youth international competition, which was named by Ural and Korgan Aitenov.

The head of the local organizers, Mrs. Svetlana Mahleyt arranged all of the tournament programs and details and she is the engine of Kostanay’s boxing. Boxers who were born in 2005 and in 2006, are eligible to participate in the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament.

Iraq’s Abbas Qasim Hamdan Al-Sarray won his first contests in Kostanay and he defeated another Kazakh talent, Amanat Nurlybek in the semi-finals of the flyweight (51kg). The young Iraqi will now meet for the title a favourite local boxer, Uslam Seksenbayev who eliminated Arman Tokmagambet.

Pavlodar region’s Islam Mashkentayev represented Kazakhstan in the 2022 Youth World Boxing Championships, the Adriatic Pearl Youth Tournament and other competitions. He moved up to the bantamweight (54kg) but his strength was enough to beat Erkhan Ontalapov which means he can face for the title with Zhanseri Kosherbayev.

Shymkent’s Bek Zholdasbek claimed a bronze medal at the 2022 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Amman and he joined the youth age group this January. The 17-year-old boxer competes at the featherweight (57kg) and he is one of the finalists after stopping Bibars Bekzhanov in the semi-finals.

Almaty’s Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Nurbek Mursal had a closer contest in the quarter-finals of the welterweight (67kg) than he expected but he worked well enough in his next challenge in the last four. The 18-year-old boxer controlled all of the three rounds against his compatriot, Askar Isayev and he will now meet for the gold medal, Yersultan Serikhan.

Another international star of Kazakhstan’s youth boxing, Islam Sovetov had a tight success over Kostanay region’s Denis Kucher and he can box for the title of the light middleweight (71kg) with Oner Seilkhan. The Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Daulet Tulemissov dominated his semi-final against South Africa’s Samkelo Nkosi and the 18-year-old boxer marched to the final of the light heavyweight (80kg).

Nurzhan Duman, the competitor from the last Youth World Boxing Championships, knocked out Iskander Idris, a local boxer in the semi-finals of the heavyweight (92kg). Almaty’s Ivan Yermolenko performed in the same way, he delivered another KO success over Uzbekistan’s Asilbek Ishmurodov and joined the final line-ups.
