Stars as Nurbek Mursal and Islam Sovetov are semi-finalists at the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament

Further twenty contests took place in the third competition day at the 23rd edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament in Kostanay, North Kazakhstan. The host nation’s top boxers such as the Youth World medallist Nurbek Mursal and Islam Sovetov both advanced to the semi-finals.

Altogether 108 boxers are participating in the new edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament in Kostanay. The Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament is a strong men’s youth international competition, which was named by Ural and Korgan Aitenov.

The head of the local organizers, Mrs. Svetlana Mahleyt arranged all of the tournament programs and details and she is the engine of Kostanay’s boxing. Boxers who were born in 2005 and in 2006, are eligible to participate in the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament.

Kazakhstan’s Adaybek Niyazbay has excellent results as a junior boxer in 2021 and he moved up to the lightweight (60kg) this year. The 18-year-old talent had the strong advantage on the judges’ scorecards after the first round and his heavy shots were decisive in the second when the referee confirmed his RSC victory over Zhanibek Abilasan.

Pavlodar region’s Artur Rakoyedov controlled his second contest against Kyrgyzstan’s Akdoolot Abylbekov at the lightweight (60kg) and he also managed to join the semi-finals. The Abay-based Erzat Nurtayev, the favourite of this weight class, is a guaranteed medallist in Kostanay as well after beating Nurzhan Orysbay.

The South Africans sent a small team to the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament for the very first time and their Mandla Nikuna advanced to the semi-finals of the lightweight (60kg). The young South African defeated Kazakhstan’s Nodar Mametbakiyev winning the bout unanimously while his teammate, Zandile Mathebula lost his quarter-final at the light welterweight (63.5kg).

One of the top stars of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament is Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Mursal who earned a silver medal at the 2022 Youth World Boxing Championships. The 18-year-old welterweight (67kg) boxer had a competitive opponent, Arystan Nurmagambet but his technical skills and great finish guaranteed his success in Kostanay on Day3.

Another youth star from Kazakhstan’s national team, the Karagandy region’s Islam Sovetov also impressed in the third day of boxing. Sovetov, who claimed a silver medal at the 2022 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships, had a hard but successful mission against Uzbekistan’s Samandar Khabibullayev.

Kostanay region’s local boxer Denis Kucher bowed out Tajikistan’s Bakhrom Khotomov and he is a guaranteed medallist at the light middleweight (71kg). His teammate, Ilyas Zhandau lost to Aldiyar Abdilayev at the middleweight (75kg) and in that category Shamil Sagidollayev of Astana and Dikhan Shaikybekov of Pavlodar are semi-finalists as well.
