ASBC Asian Youth Champion Almaz Orozbekov and Ruslan Ernis Uulu were the youngest winners at the Nurlan Abdykalykov Tournament

The Nurlan Abdykalykov Tournament featured in Kyrgyzstan where thirteen boxers including three Uzbeks and ten local boys earned the gold medals. Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion 18-year-old Almaz Orozbekov and another teenage talent Ruslan Ernis Uulu were among the winners of the Abdykalykov Tournament.

The village of Kochkor was the host of the Nurlan Abdykalykov Tournament which is located in the northern Naryn Region of the Kyrgyz Republic. Altogether 91 boxers competed in the Nurlan Abdykalykov Tournament from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in Kochkor.

Mr. Nurlan Abdykalykov was one of the top Kyrgyz boxers in the 1980s who won the Soviet Union National Championships at the lightweight (60kg) in 1984. Abdykalykov achieved a bronze medal at the Budapest 1985 European Boxing Championships representing the Soviet Union as lone Kyrgyz boxer. The tournament was named after him to remember his greatness and excellent achievements, which made him a star in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The World Boxing Championships competitor Anvarzhon Khodzhiyev was the first winner in the competition, he defeated a local boy, Nursultan Asanakunov in the final. Dzhenish Ulpatov moved up to the flyweight (51kg) and he had the technical skills to beat Kazakhstan’s Ryskhan Talip in the final.

Kyrgyzstan’s Ruslan Ernis Uulu is only 18 but he not only advanced to the finals of the bantamweight (54kg) but he defeated a successful elite national team member, Nurzhigit Dyushebayev for the title. Another Kyrgyz teenage star, the 2022 ASBC Asian Youth Champion Almaz Orozbekov defeated two more experienced elite boxers at the busy light welterweight (63.5kg) such as ASBC Asian U22 silver medallist Mirzokhid Imamnazarov and Ryspek Bektenov.

Uzbekistan’s Abduvali Buriboyev, the ASBC Asian Youth Champion, was too smart for all of his opponents including Kazakhstan’s Ardak Sagymbek in the final of the featherweight (57kg). His teammate, Ayubkhon Bakhtiyorov controlled his lightweight (60kg) final against Ilyas Ishengaziyev while Uzbekistan’s third gold medal was achieved by Sirajatdin Khujametov at the light middleweight (71kg).

Umar Kubanychbek Uulu, the silver medallist from the 2017 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships, is back on track and he defeated his main national rivals as Ikhtiyar Nishonov and Syimyk Altynbek Uulu at the welterweight (67kg). The Toktosun Uulu brothers as the younger Bakyt and Bekbolsun won the heaviest weight classes in Kochkor.

Sagyn Satybaldy Uulu, the 20-year-old top talent, moved up to the light heavyweight (80kg) and he had the narrow success in this event over another young hope, Bekbol Murasbekov. Kyrgyzstan’s Rio Olympian veteran Erkin Adylbek Uulu lost his quarter-final bout which was a surprise in the competition.
