Nuradin Rustambek Uulu, other Asians dazzle on World Championships Day 3
Kyrgyzstan’s former ASBC Asian youth champion Nuradin Rustambek Uulu delivered the quickest victory on the third competition day of the IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships 2023 at the Humo Arena in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Rustambek Uulu unloaded lethal shots against Niger’s Baro Mohamed Yacouba Laouali right after the opening bell, prompting the referee to stop their light middleweight (71kg) bout in just seven seconds.
Uzbekistan’s two-time Asian elite champ Saidjamshid Jafarov stayed sharp despite moving down to light middleweight as he thrashed Mozambique’s Commonwealth Games silver medalist Tiago Osorio Muxanga, 5-0.
U22 boxer Nidal Foqahaa gave Palestine its first success in the tournament after beating Lesotho’s Arena Pakela, 4-1, in light middleweight.
Iran’s first World Boxing Championships medalist and Tokyo Olympian Daniyal Shakhbakhsh, who recently returned to the national team after recovering from injuries, eliminated Tajikistan’s teenager Abubakr Murodzoda, 5-0, to join the last 16 in the lightweight (60kg) class.
Jordan’s reigning Asian elite titlist Mohammad Adnan Abu Jajeh nipped Kazakhstan’s new standout Talgat Syrymbetov via split decision for his maiden triumph in lightweight.
Japan’s Yuto Wakita overcame a slow start then turned the heat up to score a second-round RSC victory over Poland’s Oliwier Szot in the welterweight (67kg) division.
Other Asian winners on Day 3 were Uzbekistan’s Mujibullo Tursunov and Turkmenistan’s Shukur Ovezov in lightweight, and South Korea’s Lee Sang Min, India’s Nishant Dev, Thailand’s Peerapat Yeasungnoen and Turkmenistan’s Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov in light middleweight.
