Ibrokhimov sustains winning ways in Uzbekistan Junior National Championships
Coming off a golden run in the Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup, Pakhlavonjon Ibrokhimov kept his momentum going to capture another title in the 2023 Uzbekistan Junior National Championships held in the southern city of Termez.
Ibrokhimov, a national team standout from Tashkent, proved to be clearly a cut above the competition in the featherweight (57kg) division.
Fellow Tashkent bets Ibrokhim Giyosov and Sardorbek Saidakbarov conquered the light bantamweight (52kg) and lightweight (60kg) classes, respectively.
The trio spearheaded the capital city’s dominance in the national tournament, claiming seven out of the 15 gold medals to top the team standings.
Meanwhile, Bukhara’s Ruslan Esanov showed why he is the best junior middleweight (75kg) pug in the country as he hardly broke a sweat in beating Norbek Abdullayev in the final.
His teammate Islom Salikhov, a schoolboys national champion, added another trophy to his cabinet after ruling the heavyweight (+80kg) category.
Sukhondarya’s Azizbek Niyozov stunned Heydar Aliyev silver medalist Bekhruz Kurbonov of Bukhara to emerge victorious in the 44kg division.
Chyrchyk and Andizhan also earned titles in the competition that pitted 425 boxers born in 2007 and 2008 across 15 weight classes.
The event served as the first local selection for the upcoming ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships following their participation in international tournaments held in Russia and Azerbaijan.
