Daily Report on Asian U22 Championship 2023 Bangkok – Day 2 – Nepal claimed two historic female medals at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships

Twelve bouts in the female category of the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championship 2023 concluded on the second day of competition at the Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Nepal secured at least two historic bronze medals courtesy of its top talents Susma Tamang and Hema Rai. Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam also enjoyed victories on Thursday.

Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, host Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam are the participating 20 countries in Bangkok.

Here are the highlights from Day 2:

Susma Tamang sealed Nepal’s first-ever medal in the Asian U22 Championships as the Youth World Championship 2021 quarterfinalist overwhelmed Vietnam’s Pham Thi Quynh Anh, 5-0, in the minimumweight (48kg) class.

Her teammate Hema Rai locked up the second medal after getting an RSC win against Singapore’s Berniss Chow Zi Min in the second round of their featherweight (57kg) match.

Defending minimumweight champion Farzona Fozilova of Uzbekistan needed to stave off the taller Anel Kudaybergen of Kazakhstan for a 4-1 triumph.

Former youth world winner Nigina Uktamova and ex-Asian elite titlist Sitora Turdibekova also delivered impressive showings for Uzbekistan in bantamweight (54kg) and featherweight, respectively.

Uzbekistan’s Sabina Bobokulova claimed ASBC Asian titles in 2019, 2021 and 2022 but she is hungry for her further success in Bangkok. The smaller Uzbek southpaw was patient and defeated Mongolia’s Davaazorig Nomin-Erdene at the light flyweight (50kg) meeting.

Asian elite silver finisher and former ASBC Asian Junior Champion Nomin-Erdene Tugsjargal closed the day for Mongolia on a winning note, earning a 4-1 decision over Tajikistan’s Bibinashastamo Kholova in lightweight (60kg).

Thailand’s 19-year-old Thipsatcha Yodwaree reasserted her mastery over the Philippines’s Althea Pores, 5-0, in a rematch of their minimumweight bout in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 two months ago in Amman, Jordan. Moldir Toikova (light fly-50kg) of Kazakhstan and Nguyen Thi Hoi (fly-52kg) of Vietnam dominated their respective opening matches in the second edition of the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships. Nguyen felt the distance better and she surprised the Shymkent-based Kazakh boxer, Zhansaya Rakhymberdi with her technical skills which guaranteed her success in this bout.
