SEAG medalists triumph in Cambodian National Games
Ven Ratha and fellow Southeast Asian Games medalists dominated in the 3rd Cambodian National Games held at the National Olympic Stadium in the capital city of Phnom Penh.
The former Cuban standout Ratha, who snared a silver medal in the SEA Games 2015, trounced three opponents, including Tam Tet in the finals, to reign supreme in the light welterweight (63.5kg) class.
SEAG bronze winners Sao Rangsey and Nat Seaknin decimated Dos Ratana in bantamweight (54kg) and Sengsay in featherweight (57kg), respectively, to claim their national titles.
Meanwhile, national mainstays Nov Sokty (fly-51kg) and David Touch (light-60kg) also emerged victorious in the tournament.
Kandal Province’s Orh Khem was dominant at the men’s minimumweight (48kg) in the recent national events and he defeated Chut Seyha in the final of the Games.
Phal Sopheak from the Ministry of Interior eliminated his main rival, Penh Vanthung already in the semi-finals of the welterweight (67kg) and he continued his winning path against Sem Kakkada in the final.
Kim Veasna of the Ministry of National Defence delivered one of the sensations in the Games when he triumphed over an experienced national team member, Hun Kum Heang in the final of the light middleweight (71kg).
An Army boxer, Mao Vichhay claimed the ninth gold medal of the National Games, he defeated Nhek Chheang for the title of the middleweight (75kg).
The men boxers competed in nine weight classes in the third National Games and altogether 48 selected hopes participated for the titles in the National Boxing Olympic Stadium. The event was supported by the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, the Cambodia Boxing Federation and the LOC of the 2023 SEA Games.
The Cambodia Boxing Federation arranged its first historic Referee & Judge Course, national events and other kind of activities in the country during the recent period. Their long term strategic plans are confirmed and their next milestone is the next edition of the Southeast Asian Games which will be held for the very first time in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
ASBC President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira of Thailand supported the event as the Cambodian pugs prepare for the SEA Games 2023 which will be hosted by their country.
