Olympian Erkin Adylbek Uulu posts strong heavyweight debut in Kyrgyz Nationals

Rio Olympics veteran Erkin Adylbek Uulu came through with a dominant debut in the heavyweight (92kg) division to bag a gold medal in the Kyrgyz Elite National Championships 2022 that recently concluded at the Kozhomkul Sport Hall in Bishkek.

The three-time ASBC Asian elite bronze medalist battered Argen Baktybekov, 5-0, and enjoyed a walkover against Daniyar Orozbekov before crushing Bakyt Toktosun Uulu, 5-0, in the finals.

Asian elite bronze winner Nuradin Rustambek Uulu and FISU World Cup champ  Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu proved too strong for their opponents in the light middleweight (71kg) and light heavyweight (80kg) classes, respectively.

Former national youth titlist Askat Kultayev stunned Youth World Championships bronze finisher Zhantoro Tashiyev and Umar Kubanychbek Uulu to emerge victorious in the crowded light welterweight (63.5kg).

Asylbek Amankul Uulu caused a surprise at the men’s minimumweight (48kg) and defeated Kyrgyzstan’s two top boxers in this category, Anvarzhon Khodzhiyev and ASBC Asian Boxing Championships bronze medallist Mirlan Turkbay Uulu. Issyk-Kul region’s Nurzhigit Dyushebayev represented Kyrgyzstan at the flyweight (51kg) in the main events and won a national title in Bishkek.

Islam Torobayev is a promising 20-year-old talent who had a strong performance at the bantamweight (54kg) to earn the title against Omurzak Zamirbekov. Chui region’s 19-year-old Turgunbek Imankadyrov and Osh’s experienced Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu bagged the next two national titles. The latter defeated an ASBC U22 Boxing Championships medallist, Mirzokhid Imamnazarov in the final of the lightweight (60kg).

Zhakshylyk Talaybekov proved that he is the best Kyrgyz welterweight (67kg) boxer after beating the ex-Russian Shamil Malsagov and Nursaid Iminzhanov.

Bishkek’s Aynazik Rustambek Kyzy caused the main sensation of the women’s finals when she defeated the multiple national champion and IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships competitor Shakhriza Khalilova at the bantamweight (54kg).

The 2004 born boxers also have been added to the national event and these 18-year-old talents increased their experiences in Bishkek. Among them, Amaliya Kemelbayeva (women’s light fly-50kg), Baktygul Kurmanbekova (feather-57kg), Sabina Duishonova (light middle-70kg) and Daniel Abdurakhmanov (men’s middle-75kg) earned golds in their elite age group debuts.

A total of 109 boxers including 15 female pugs joined the national championships which served as a selection for international competitions next year.
