Daily Report on 2022 Asian Elite Championships Amman, Jordan – Day 10 (Women’s Finals)

Brand new champions were crowned in the women’s division of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 as the finals concluded on November 11 in Amman, Jordan.

India topped the women’s medal table after bagging four golds while last year’s best team Kazakhstan came in second with three golds.

Chinese Taipei, Japan, South Korea, Uzbekistan and Vietnam nabbed a gold medal each.

Here is the recap of Day 10:

The women’s finals started with Kazakhstan’s Alua Balkibekova retaining her minimumweight (48kg) title via a walkover against Japan’s Hikaru Kato.

Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam snared her second Asian elite gold in five years after edging out Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Tsukimi Namiki of Japan, 3-2, in the light flyweight (50kg) class.

Japan’s Youth World Boxing Championships bronze finisher Rinka Kinoshita came up with a close 4-1 decision over India’s newcomer Minakshi in flyweight (52kg).

Kazakhstan’s Zhaina Shekerbekova snagged her second Asian title after 12 years as the 32-year-old veteran boxer used her experience to pull off a 5-0 romp against the younger world silver winner Jutamas Jitpong of Thailand in bantamweight (54kg).

World bronze medalist Karina Ibragimova delivered Kazakhstan’s third gold through a methodical 3-1 upset of Japan’s Olympic champion Sena Irie in featherweight (57kg).

South Korea’s Oh Yeon-ji took her third Asian title after crushing Mongolia’s Nomin-Erdene Tugsjargal, 5-0, in lightweight (60kg).

India’s world bronze winner Parveen Hooda came through with a 5-0 triumph over Japan’s Mai Kito in light welterweight (63.5kg), handing her country its first gold in the tournament.

Navbakhor Khamidova became Uzbekistan’s third Asian elite women’s champion as she dominated South Korea’s Choi Hong Eun, 5-0, in welterweight (66kg).

Chinese Taipei’s former world champion finally claimed her maiden Asian title after routing Thailand’s ex-youth world titlist Baison Manikon, 5-0, in light middleweight (70kg).

Two-time world bronze finisher and IBA Athletes’ Committee head Lovlina Borgohain of India grabbed her first career gold after notching a 5-0 victory against Uzbekistan’s Sokhiba Ruzmetova in middleweight (75kg).

Seasoned Indian pug Saweety Boora captured her breakthrough gold as well, posting a 5-0 beatdown of Uzbekistan’s Gulsaya Yerzhan in light heavyweight (81kg). Reigning youth world champ Alfiya Tarannum Akram Khan Pathan capped India’s victorious run as the 19-year-old fighter won over host Jordan’s Islam Husaili via a first-round disqualification in heavyweight (+81kg).
