Daily Report on 2022 Asian Elite Championships Amman, Jordan – Day 8 Women’s Semifinals

A total of 23 exciting bouts were witnessed in the women’s semifinals of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 on November 9 in Amman, Jordan.

India and Japan were the big winners on the eighth day of competition after securing at least five silver medals apiece. Kazakhstan lost its title as the best Asian women’s team after having only four finalists following its eight-gold haul last year.

South Korea and Thailand were assured of two boxers in the gold medal round while Chinese Taipei, Jordan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and Vietnam have one each.

Here are some highlights from Day 8:

Tokyo Olympics and AIBA World Championships 2018 bronze medalist Tsukimi Namiki of Japan dethroned Kazakhstan’s two-time world champion Nazym Kyzaibay with a 4-1 stunner in the light flyweight (50kg) division.

Two-time world and Asian elite bronze finisher Lovlina Borgohain, who is also the current chairwoman of the IBA Athletes’ Committee, emerged as India’s first finalist after clobbering South Korea’s top seed Seong Su Yeon, 5-0, in middleweight (75kg).

Kazakhstan’s world silver winner Alua Balkibekova earned a chance to defend her Asian title as she crushed Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 champ Farzona Fozilova, 5-0, in minimumweight (48kg).

South Korea’s two-time Asian elite and Asian Games 2018 gold medalist Oh Yeon-ji came up with a tactical 5-0 victory over Chinese Taipei’s Wu Shih Yi in lightweight (60kg).

World silver finisher Jutamas Jitpong of Thailand dictated the tempo against Mongolia’s No. 1 seed Yesugen Oyuntsetseg en route to a 4-1 triumph in their bantamweight (54kg) bout.

Chinese Taipei’s former world champion Chen Nien-chin pulled off a 4-1 win against the Kazakh veteran Dariga Shakimova in light middleweight (70kg) while Vietnam’s ex-Asian titlist Nguyen Thi Tam trounced South Korea’s Kang Do Yeon, 5-0, in light flyweight. Mongolia’s Asian junior titlist Nomin-Erdene Tugsjargal routed Thailand’s Porntip Buapa, 5-0, in lightweight even as host Jordan’s Husaili Islam got a bye to the finals of the three-woman heavyweight (81+kg) class.
