Daily Report on 2022 Asian Elite Championships Amman, Jordan – Day6

Historic moments were made and more medalists emerged as the second part of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 quarterfinals concluded on November 6 in Amman, Jordan.

A total of 32 exciting bouts took place on the sixth day of competition, with host Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Tajikistan joining the medal-winning countries Chinese Taipei, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Thailand, South Korea and Uzbekistan.

Here are some highlights from Day 6:

India’s Shiva Tapa rewrote history as he seized his sixth straight Asian elite medal after whipping up a 4-1 win against Choi Min Su of South Korea in the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) division.

The 28-year-old Thapa, who is the most bemedalled boxer in the continental meet, has now added at least a bronze to the gold, two silvers and two bronzes he won in the last five editions.

Asian U22 bronze winner Zohaib Rasheed also made a milestone for Pakistan after forcing a second round stoppage over Thailand’s Natthapong Thuamcharoen in the minimumweight (48kg) class, giving his country its first Asian elite medal since 2005.

Host country Jordan took its first medal in the tournament courtesy of Mohammad Adnan Abu Jajeh who earned the nod of all five judges in his lightweight (60kg) bout versus Shion Nishiyama of Japan.

Former Asian champ Bakhodur Usmonov delivered Tajikistan’s maiden medal as he continued his mission to reclaim the title with a 3-2 split decision against Turkmenistan’s Hursand Imankuliyev in light welterweight.

Kyrgzystan also barged into the medal table after Sanzhai Seidakmatov slipped past Ananta Prashad Chopade of India, 4-0, in bantamweight (54kg).

In the women’s category, South Korea’s two-time Asian elite champion and Asian Games 2018 gold medalist Oh Yeon-ji waylaid world bronze finisher Simranjit Kaur Baath of India, 5-0, in lightweight.

IBA Women’s World Championships 2022 silver winner Alua Balkybekova of Kazakhstan schooled Thailand’s young bet Thipsatcha Yodwaree, 5-0, in minimumweight. Balkybekova arranged a much-anticipated match against Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 champ Farzona Fozilova who scored a third round RSC victory over Sara Qawasmy of Jordan.
