Daily Report on 2022 Asian Elite Championships Amman, Jordan – Day 3
The women’s tournament of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 went underway on the third day of preliminaries in Amman, Jordan, with a total of 21 exciting matches taking place including the men’s division.
Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bhutan, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, South Korea, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the 27 participating countries.
Mr. Angel Villareal of the United States is serving as the Technical Delegate of the tournament and working with him are 10 ITO’s along with 17 Referee-Judges.
Here are some highlights from Day 3:
Two-time world champions Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan and Lin Yu-ting of Chinese Taipei came through with victorious debuts in the women’s category.
Gunning for a second straight Asian Elite title, Kyzaibay controlled the decisive final round to eke out a split decision against two-time world bronze medalist Chuthamat Raksat of Thailand in the light flyweight (50kg) division.
Defending world featherweight (57kg) titlist Lin chalked up an easy 5-0 victory over Mijgona Samadova of Tajikistan to advance to the quarterfinals where she will take on Tokyo Olympics gold winner Sena Irie of Japan.
Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam fired off her bid for a second Asian Elite gold by tallying a 4-1 win against IBA Women’s World Championships 2022 campaigner Aira Villegas of the Philippines in the light flyweight class.
Asian silver winner Nilawan Techasuep and Youth Olympic Games 2018 gold medalist Panpatchara Somnuek of Thailand smashed their respective opponents in featherweight and light welterweight (63kg), respectively.
Over at the men’s tournament, Thailand’s World Championships 2021 bronze finisher Weerapon Jongjoho beat Cambodia’s ex-Uzbek bet Anvar Nasredinov, 4-1, for a winning start in light heavyweight (80kg).
Cambodia nevertheless savored a historic triumph as another former Uzbek boxer Abdulla Rajapov routed South Korea’s Jung Han Eul, 5-0, in heavyweight (92kg).
Iran’s two-time Asian Elite bronze medalist Seyed Shahin Mousavi proved too strong for United Arab Emirate’s Fahad Al-Khoori, posting a lopsided 5-0 victory in middleweight (75kg).
Uzbekistan’s Odiljon Aslonov showed that he is a worthy replacement for world silver winner Dilshodbek Ruzmetov as the Zolotarev Memorial Tournament champ crushed South Korea’s Park Jin Hun, 5-0, in light heavyweight.
