Daily Report on 2022 Asian Elite Championships Amman, Jordan – Day 2

The ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 resumed with 17 action-packed bouts on the second day of preliminaries in Amman, Jordan.

Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bhutan, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Syria, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the 27 participating countries.

Mr. Angel Villareal of the United States is serving as the Technical Delegate of the tournament. A total of 10 ITO’s and 17 Referee-Judges are working with him.

Here are some highlights from Day 2:

Reigning world champions Saken Bibossinov of Kazakhstan and Tomoya Tsuboi of Japan opened their respective campaigns on a winning note.

Bibossinov battered India’s Sparsh Kumar in the last two rounds for a 4-1 victory in the flyweight (51kg) division while Tsuboi, who moved down from bantamweight (54kg) to flyweight, thrashed Bahrain’s Azat Makhmetov, 5-0.

Uzbekistan’s AIBA Youth World and ASBC Asian U22 champion Shakhzod Muzaffarov barged into the bantamweight quarterfinals after clobbering Pakistan’s Zakir Hussain, 5-0, in his first assignment.

Another Uzbek star in Ruslan Abdullayev sustained his momentum from the opening day as the Asian U22 titlist posted a stunning 5-0 rout against top seed Sanatali Toltayev of Kazakhstan to enter the quarterfinals of light welterweight (63.5kg).

Kyrgyzstan’s Asian U22 silver finisher Mirzokhid Imamnazarov outclassed Turkmenistan’s Shukur Ovezov, 4-1, to win the first lightweight (60kg) match.

Youssef Iashash of host Jordan edged out Mario Fernandez of the Philippines via split decision in featherweight (57kg) while Chinese Taipei’s top boxer Lai Chu En upset world youth silver winner Zhantoro Tashiev of Kyrgyzstan, 4-1, in light welterweight. Japan’s Shion Nishiyama got his revenge against Iraq’s Ali Qasim Hamdan Al-Sarray with a 5-0 romp in lightweight even as Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum Bin Ariffin delivered Malaysia’s first win after eliminating Hong Kong’s Kenneth Tam Chun Hin, 4-1, in flyweight.
