Kazakhs, Thais shine in Silesian women’s tilt opener

National stars from Kazakhstan and Thailand put up dazzling performances on the opening day of the 17th Silesian Women’s Open Tournament in Gliwice, Poland.

Kazakhstan’s two-time world champion and reigning ASBC Asian titlist Nazym Kyzaibay schooled the much younger Pihla Kaivo-Oja of Finland via a 3-0 drubbing to open her light flyweight (50kg) campaign on a winning note.

Former world silver finisher Zhaina Shekerbekova also came through with a 3-0 beatdown over another young Finnish bet in Vilma Viitanen in the bantamweight (54kg) division.

Rio Olympics bronze winner and two-time Asian champ Dariga Shakimova eked out a split decision win against Norway’s Madeleine Angelsen while ex-Asian titlist Madina Nurshayeva battered Lithuania’s Austeja Auciute, 3-0, both in the welterweight (66kg) class.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s world silver medalist Jutamas Jitpong maximized her reach advantage to post a 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan’s former youth national team member Anel Sakysh in bantamweight.

Her teammate Porntip Buapa, a silver finisher in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games and a two-time Asian youth champion, crushed Rebeka Dobos of Hungary, 3-0, in lightweight (60kg).

Thailand and Kazakhstan sent their bets to the Silesian international tilt to prepare them for the ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2022 scheduled on October 30 to November 13 in Amman, Jordan.
