Asian medalists Kunkabayev, Tashkenbay and Tokhirov seize titles in Shokhr Boltekuly
ASBC Asian medal winners Kamshybek Kunkabayev, Sanzhar Tashkenbay and Nusratbek Tokhirov came out on top of their respective weight divisions in the 14th Shokhr Boltekuly Memorial Tournament on Sunday in Aktau, Kazakhstan.
Veteran Kazakh fighter Kunkabayev, a three-time Asian elite silver finisher, two-time world silver winner and Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist, marked his victorious return with a 5-0 domination of compatriot Amanat Sabyrgali in the super heavyweight (92+kg) class.
Kazakhstan’s Asian and Youth World Champion Tashkenbay thrashed countryman Yernur Kayrat, 5-0, for the minimumweight (48kg) title while Uzbekistan’s Asian youth titlist Tokhirov took a 3-1 win over his teammate Abdulla Radjabov in heavyweight (92kg).
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Khunatip Pidnuch capped off his title run in light welterweight (63.5kg) via a unanimous decision against hometown bet Miras Kanabek.
All in all, 10 boxers from different regions of Kazakhstan bagged a gold medal apiece while Uzbekistan notched two and Thailand got one in the traditional men’s elite tilt named after Mr. Shokhr Boltekuly, a pioneer of the sweet science in the Central Asian powerhouse.
A total of 130 boxers from seven national federations joined the tournament organized by the Boxing Federation of the Mangystau Region and served as preparation for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2022 on October 30 to November 13 in Amman, Jordan.
