Kazakh and Thai U-22 stars shine in Shokhr Boltekuly quarterfinals
Host nation Kazakhstan and Thailand’s under-22 standouts delivered in the second part of the 14th Shokhr Boltekuly Memorial Tournament quarterfinals on Friday in Aktau.
AIBA Youth World Championships 2021 silver finisher Yerbolat Sabyr came up with an impressive 5-0 win over Uzbekistan’s veteran Oybek Jurayev in the featherweight (57kg) division.
ASBC Asian Youth Champion Biybars Zheksen trounced compatriot Zhannur Adilbek, 5-0, in featherweight while Asian elite silver winner Daniyal Sabit moved up to flyweight (51kg) where he crushed countryman Arnur Aranbayev, 5-0.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Southeast Asian Games silver winner Khunatip Pidnuch earned the nod of five judges against hometown bet Nurbek Orysbay in the light welterweight (63.5kg) class.
His teammate, Weerapon Jongjoho, a bronze medalist in both the AIBA World Championships 2021 and Youth Olympic Games 2018, battered Uzbekistan’s former Asian junior champion Login Petrov for an easy 5-0 victory in the light heavyweight (80kg) category.
The traditional men’s elite tilt, named after the Kazakh boxing pioneer Mr. Shokhr Boltekuly, is part of the participating federations’ preparation for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2022 on October 30 to November 13 in Amman, Jordan.
The Boxing Federation of the Mangystau Region is the organizer of the event, with ASBC Vice President Mr. Aziz Kozhambetov overseeing the competition joined by 130 boxers from seven national teams.
