Yokubov, other Asian medalists assert dominance in Tajikistan youth men’s joust
Emerging star Abdurakhim Yokubov and three fellow Asian medal winners ruled their respective weight classes in the men’s division of the Tajikistan Youth National Championships held recently in the capital city of Dushanbe.
Yokubov, a champion in the 2019 ASBC Asian Junior Championships and a silver finisher in the 2022 edition, overwhelmed Nekruz Gaibuloyev to defend his lightweight (60kg) national title.
Asian silver medalist Abubakr Murodov needed to fend off a tough contender in Buzurgmekhr Iksanov to reign supreme in the featherweight (57kg) class.
Bronze winners Sirodjiddin Khojiboboyev and Akmaljon Abduvaliyev dominated separate foes for the light middleweight (71kg) and cruiserweight (86kg) trophies, respectively.
Firdavs Arifov (minimum-48kg), Aslomjon Kurbonov (fly-51kg), Mukhammadali Khasanov (bantam-54kg), Saddam Davlatov (light welter-63.5kg), Dilshod Saidakhmadov (welter-67kg), Ilkhom Mashrapov (middle-75kg), Shokhruz Valiyev (light heavy-80kg), Ruslan Fedorin (heavy-92kg) and Rakhmatjon Ayomzoda (super heavy-+92kg) were the other gold medalists in the national tourney.
This year’s national champions also earned a chance to compete in the IBA Youth Men’s & Women’s World Championships slated to be held on November 13 to 27 in Alicante, Spain.
Khatlon Region topped the standings after racking up five gold medals followed by Sugh Region with four golds and Dushanbe with two. A total of 70 young fighters from regional selections participated in the national tilt.
