Kazakhstan tops men’s division of Junior Nations’ Cup in Serbia

Kazakhstan racked up five gold and four bronze medals to rule the men’s category against a number of competitive countries in the 6th Junior Nations’ Cup held in Vrbas, Serbia from August 10 to 15.

ASBC Asian junior champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan led the charge for Kazakhstan’s 11-strong team as he trampled on boxers from Romania, Bulgaria, Italy and Serbia on his way to the lightweight (60kg) title.

Aidar Kadyrkhan (bantam-54kg), Oner Seilkhan (light welter-63kg), Madiyar Yerbossynov (welter-66kg) and Madiyar Bekhsultanov (light heavy-80kg) won the other golds for the Central Asian powerhouse.

On the other hand, Yerassyl Amangeldiyev (light fly-48kg), Saken Yermek (feather-57kg), Akhmet Ussen (light welter-63kg), and Denis Kucher (light middle-70kg) delivered the bronzes.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan finished behind Kazakhstan with three golds and two silvers while India and Israel went home with one silver apiece from the women’s class.

A total of 135 boxers from 18 countries, mostly European, in both men’s and women’s divisions joined the Junior Nations’ Cup this year, with Italy topping the women’s category (5-3-1 gold-silver-bronze) and the overall medal standings (7-6-5).
