Thailand’s first historical Asian Junior Champion is Thanaphansakon Kalaseeram
The first 26 junior finals featured in the eleventh competition day of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan today. Thailand’s first ever champion in this junior age is Thanaphansakon Kalaseeram who won the men’s bantamweight (54kg) on Day11 with impressive performance.
Uzbekistan achieved eleven titles in the junior part of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships and topped the team standings. India earned seven gold medals in the first day of the finals and became runner-up, while Kazakhstan bagged six titles while Thailand took the remaining one final victory.
Altogether 355 boxers from 21 nations are attending in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Amman. India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen sent their best talents to the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.
The finals are scheduled to be held in March 13 and 14 after the rest in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. Impressive number of 51 female and male champions will be crowned in the competition, 26 junior boxers and 25 youth athletes. Boxers who were born in 2004 and in 2005 will be eligible to attend in the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. The younger talents from the 2006 and 2007 age groups can compete in the junior part of the championships in Jordan.
Uzbekistan’s Jasmin Tokhirova is the first champion in Amman
Uzbekistan’s Junior National Champion Jasmin Tokhirova eliminated Kazakhstan’s small Diana Yeleussiz in the semi-finals of the pinweight (46kg) but she expected a hard battle against India’s Mahi Siwash who is newcomer in their junior national team. The Indian used her longer hands well enough in the first round of their battle and she impressed the experts with her skills. The Uzbek talent returned to the bout with different style of boxing in the second round and she was able to turn back their final contest achieving the first title of the whole championships in Amman.
India’s first gold medallist is 14-year-old Vini
Kazakhstan’s Karina Tokubay eliminated her Jordanian opponent in the quarter-final of the flyweight (50kg) and continued her winning path against Uzbekistan’s Khilolakhon Mashrabova in a crucial contest. The Kazakh talent met for the gold medal of the weight class with India’s Vini who defeated Iraq’s promising female boxer, Dalya Al-Sammarraie in the second semi-final. Vini is only 14-year-old but she has seven years of experiences in the sport and proved impressive performance in the previous rounds. The Indian talent had nice counter-attacks in the first round using her long hands in the final bout but Tokubay was also smart in the exchanges. Vini worked enough from longer distance to win the final and earned India’s first gold medal in Jordan’s capital.
Yunusova stopped her Indian rival at the women’s bantamweight
Uzbekistan’s Uzukjamol Yunusova won her opening two contests in Amman with excellent performance proving her developments since the Junior National Championships. She met for the title with India’s Supriya Devi Thokchom who bowed out Kazakhstan’s Aisha Sariyeva in the second semi-final. Yunusova started the bout slowly but from the second round, she impressed all of the judges in Amman. The Uzbek talent landed the stronger punches from the second round of the bout and she stopped her Indian rival winning the bantamweight (54kg) final by RSC.
Nikita Chand won her second ASBC Asian junior title
India’s Nikita Chand won the gold medal at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and she arrived to Amman to defend her throne at the lightweight (60kg). She spends her second year among the junior boxers and she is the most experienced Indian in their national team. Chand eliminated her Jordanian rival, Assel Mahmoud met with a strong Kazakh boxer to defend her throne, Uldana Taubay for the title in Amman. The Central Asian had the height advantage but Chand had the speed to handle this tactical job in the first round. The Indian girl had energetic attacks and after the second standing count, the referee stopped their final which means Chand defended her throne.
Zhangabayeva earned her second Asian junior title
Kazakhstan’s Aruzhan Zhangabayeva won the title at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and she was too strong for her opponents including Vietnam’s Tran Thanh Tuyen too. Zhangabayeva’s next opponent in the final of the welterweight (66kg) was Jordan’s Nuha Al-Zoubi who had a fantastic performance against Uzbekistan’s Farida Zaripova in the last four. The 16-year-old Kazakh did not underestimate her Jordanian opponent and she landed the stronger punches in their final. Their contest was quicker than expected, Zhangabayeva not only proved her excellent technical skills but her strength decided the final winning it by RSC in the first round. Zhangabayeva bagged her second title in the ASBC Asian Women’s Junior Boxing Championships after the Dubai edition.
Rudrika changed her last year’s silver medal into gold
India’s Rudrika defeated her main rival already in the semi-finals, Uzbekistan’s Sanobar Bozorboyeva who achieved silver medal in the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. The 16-year-old Haryana-based Indian expected another tough contest against Kazakhstan’s Shugyla Nalibay who had nice hooks in the first round. Rudrika developed well in terms of strength and technical skills since the last edition of the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. The Indian girl won the battle of the southpaw boxers in Amman and upgraded her last year’s silver medal into gold.
Pal won the boys’ pinweight in Amman
India’s Krrish Pal eliminated Thailand’s Kangpi Bonkhunthod in a superb semi-final at the junior pinweight (46kg) and he was planning to continue his winning path against Tajikistan’s lone finalist today, Anushervon Fazylov. The Indian talent used his longer hands well enough in the first round and he had quick attacks in the opening period. Pal jumped into the best fighting distance a few times and landed good shots in the second round while Fazylov tried to use different tactic in that period. The Tajik boxer was highly competitive in their final but he could not turn back the title contest in Amman.
Samandar Olimov won his final by knock out to the body
Kazakhstan’s Bek Zholdasbek defeated Uzbekistan’s Samandar Olimov by split decision in the semi-finals of the Sagyntayev Junior Memorial Tournament in December 2021 but his opponent made a fantastic revenge in the semi-finals of the flyweight (50kg). Olimov advanced to the final where he faced with Kyrgyzstan’s lone boxer in this competition day, Emir Kylychbekov. The Kyrgyz boxer landed a few nice shots in the first minute but Kylychbekov made too much risk against the tough Uzbek and Olimov knocked him out on body landing a lethal shot.
Aidar Kadyrkhan is Kazakhstan’s first junior male gold medallist
Kazakhstan’s Aidar Kadyrkhan eliminated Mongolia’s lone male junior semi-finalist, Manal Tsendbaatar in an outstanding contest at the light bantamweight (52kg). Kadyrkhan faced in the final of the light bantamweight (52kg) with Uzbekistan’s Sunnatilla Uktamaliyev who had a strong performance against Jordan’s Qais Mohammad Eshish in the last four. The Uzbek boxer started the first round with strict punches but Kadyrkhan has done a great finish in the end of the second minute. The Kazakh boxer moved ahead more in the second and third rounds and he used his amazing footwork to catch the Uzbek with jabs. Aidar Kadyrkhan delivered Kazakhstan’s first junior male title in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.
Thailand won a historical junior gold medal at the bantamweight
Uzbekistan’s Mironshokh Norkosimov achieved silver medal at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and he advanced to his second final in Amman. The Uzbek bantamweight (54kg) eliminated Kazakhstan’s Sultanbiy-Bars Abyllayev in the last four but he could expect a tough battle against Thailand’s technician Thanaphansakon Kalaseeram in the final. The Thai found his best rhythm in the end of the first round when he counter-attacked the Uzbek talent successfully. The experienced and powerful Uzbek moved forward while Kalaseeram used his long range tactic to find the holes on Norkosimov’s defence. The Thai southpaw used several right-handed hooks to stop the Uzbek boxer in a world-class final bout which delivered a historical junior gold medal for Thailand.
Kazakhstan’s Torekhan Sabyrkhan claimed his second Asian junior title
Kazakhstan’s Torekhan Sabyrkhan claimed gold medal at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and he returned to the event to defend his throne. The Kazakh featherweight (57kg) eliminated Tajikistan’s junior No.1, Ruslan Gafurov and met for the title with Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Schoolboys Champion and the winner of the Commonwealth of Independent States Junior Games Farrukh Tulaganov. Their bout was the most anticipated contests of the evening session which started better by the Kazakh boxer who has excellent technical skills. Tulaganov is stronger than any of the junior boxers but his defence was not good enough in the second round when the referee counted him twice which means Sabyrkhan won the amazing final by an unexpected RSC.
Akhmet Ussen turned back his final against Kudratov
Uzbekistan’s Khojiakbar Kudratov had a hard semi-final bout against Iran’s Seyed Ali Akbar Mirahmadi and advanced to the final contest in Amman. The Uzbek light welterweight (63kg) surprised the favourite, Kazakhstan’s Sagyntayev Junior Memorial Tournament winner strong Akhmet Ussen with his combinations in the first round and took the advantage on the scorecards. The taller Kazakh was smarter in the exchanges in the second round and equalized the result, all sheets showed 19:19 after four minutes of fight. Ussen moved ahead and tried to land his best hooks and jabs in the final round and he succeeded in Amman.
Kazakhstan’s Begaliyev won the welterweight by RSC
Iran’s only junior finalist in the championship, Alireza Mousavi defeated a taller local rival, Jordan’s Malek Jadallah in the semi-finals of the welterweight (66kg). The 16-year-old Iranian had a difficult tactical challenge against Kazakhstan’s Sanzhar-Ali Begaliyev in the final of the event. The Kazakh boxer used his height to land jabs from safest distance and his combinations resulted for him a clear advantage after two minutes. The referee counted the Iranian in the second round but Mousavi was able to continue their final contest with excellent stamina. The Shymkent-based Begaliyev was unknown before the start of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships but he won the final by RSC in the third round with impressive performance.
Abduvakhobov was too fast for his Kazakh opponent
Uzbekistan’s outstanding junior boxer, Temurbek Abduvakhobov enjoyed his semi-final against Kyrgyzstan’s Mukhammadaziz Zakirov and advanced to the final of the middleweight (75kg). He met with Kazakhstan’s Mukhammed-Ali Zhanbolat for the title and he looked highly motivated against his top neighbouring rival. Abduvakhobov was quicker in the exchanges in the first and second rounds and he had massive advantage after four minutes of fight. Zhanbolat could not use his best fighting range due to the speed of the Uzbek boxer therefore Abduvakhobov earned the Asian title.
Kodirov and Aliyev won the heaviest junior weight categories
Uzbekistan’s Rakhmonjon Kodirov bowed out his main rival, Kazakhstan’s Madiyar Beksultanov in the semi-finals of the light heavyweight (80kg) but he was concentrated in the first exchanges against India’s Rishabh Singh Sikarwar during their final. The Uzbek boxer prepared to win the gold medal and used his quicker jabs to stop the smaller Indian talent in the first round. Kodirov had the right game plan against the Indian and continued the second round with more powerful shots. Following the standing count, Kodirov knew that he is better today and his confident style of boxing delivered for him a title in Amman. His teammate, the southpaw Ozodbek Aliyev landed strong body shots and hooks against Kazakhstan’s Aslan Yeldibayulu and defeated a technician opponent.
