Pakistan earned a guaranteed medal in Tashkent, their first in the Asian Championships since 2005

Fifteen contests were held in the third competition day at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The women boxers began their campaigns in the third day of boxing in the historical event which saw impressive contests on Monday. Pakistan is among the nations which has got semi-finalists and this is their first ASBC medal since the 2005 Asian Elite Boxing Championships.

The Technical Delegate of the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships is Mr. Viorel Sima of Romania and many non-Asian officials and referees work in the event to keep the neutrality in the historical competition.

Following the Sport Entries Check, it has been confirmed that the number of boxers is 109 from 12 nations in the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships. Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are the participating nations in the difficult period which affects the whole continent in our present days.

Uzbekistan’s 18-year-old Asilbek Jalilov won his first international contest

Pakistan’s first medallist is Zohaib Rasheed

Pakistan’s Zohaib Rasheed won the gold medal in their last Elite National Championships in December and received the right to compete for his nation at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships. Rasheed was born in 2000 as his opponent, Sri Lanka’s Samutun Mudiyanselage Kavinda Sanjaya Bandara who competed at the Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. The Sri Lankan southpaw tried to land his punches with perfect timing but Rasheed looked quicker in the first round of their minimumweight (48kg) contest. Rasheed’s hooks were strong but Bandara started the second with an impressive left-handed shot which was responded also by the Pakistani boxer. The final verdict was depended on their performance in the third round Rasheed landed the stronger punches and won their narrow quarter-final.

Japan’s Kazuma Aratake eliminated a Tajik fighter at the minimumweight

Japan’s Kazuma Aratake was unlucky in the Kielce 2021 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and also at the Belgrade 2021 AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships but the 19-year-old talent planned to show his real skills in Tashkent. The Japanese minimumweight (48kg) boxer met with Tajikistan’s Usmonjon Mirzoyev who achieved silver medal in their National Spartakyad. The 19-year-old Tajik started the bout with energetic style of boxing and impressed on his international debut but Aratake was more punctual in the attacks. Aratake calmed down in the beginning of the second round and he landed the better punches to win their spectacular contest.

Kyrgyzstan’s Anvarzhon Khodzhiyev bowed out a tough Mongolian

Kyrgyzstan’s minimumweight (48kg) talent Anvarzhon Khodzhiyev amazed in the international events in 2021 and prepared well to compete in Tashkent. His quarter-final opponent, Mongolia’s Orkhontungalag Unubold was a surprise in the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships where he claimed bronze medal. Khodzhiyev tried to move a lot on feet to catch the Mongolian boxer and dictated the tempo in the first round. Unubold adopted the speed of the bout and he performed better in the second part of their quarter-final but Khodzhiyev had enough advantage to keep the narrow triumph.

Iraq’s next medal was achieved by Moussa Jaffar Hashim

Sri Lanka’s Kuda Vithanage Lasindu Eranda is Elite National Champion in his homeland and he has been preparing with full speed to attend at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. The Sri Lankan flyweight (51kg) boxer caught Iraq’s National Championships silver medallist Moussa Jaffar Hashim a few times in the first round and his right-handed shots controlled the opening minute. The Ingiriya-based boxer moved forward but received punches from counter-attacking range and the taller Hashim advanced to the semi-finals.

Tajikistan’s 18-year-old Akbarali Abdurakhmanzoda is medallist in Tashkent

Tajikistan’s Akbarali Abdurakhmanzoda proved his amazing technical skills at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships where he had a narrow loss to India’s eventual winner Bishwamitra Chongtham. The 18-year-old Tajik flyweight (5kg) boxer met with Saudi Arabia’s most experienced U22 boxer, Abdulaziz Khalid Al-Atbi who attended already at the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. The Saudi Arabian boxer was competitive and proved his potential but Abdurakhmanzoda had the speed advantage in their contest. The referee counted the Saudi boxer in the second round twice but Al-Atbi was strong enough to continue almost until the very end of the contest.

Uzbekistan’s Shakhzod Muzaffarov enjoyed his first contest in Tashkent

Following Mukhammadkodir Mamirjonov’s success over Malaysia No.1, Muhammad Rasdenal Haikal at the flyweight (51kg), Uzbekistan’s defending AIBA Youth World Champion Shakhzod Muzaffarov will be turning to 20 this year but he is such a strong future star in our sport who has got now all of his skills and experiences to win U22 and elite competitions. The Uzbek bantamweight (54kg) boxer had to meet with Malaysia’s Imdad Muhammad and showed that he is better in all aspects of boxing than his Southeast Asian rival. Muzaffarov enjoyed his first appearance in the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships and eliminated the Malaysian newcomer in Tashkent.

Mongolia’s Dorjnyambuu Ganbold opened his campaign with a clear success

Mongolia’s Dorjnyambuu Ganbold is an 18-year-old talent who delivered a fantastic surprise in their U22 National Selection Tournament when he defeated AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Enkhzorigt Sukhbat. The Mongolian bantamweight (54kg) boxer controlled the first round against Kuwait’s Abuquzailah Turki and increased his tempo in the second. The referee counted Turki in the second round but he could continue the contest and had the strong stamina to fight until the end of the bout. Kuwait’s national team member proved his development since the last competition but Ganbold was too strong for him.

Uzbekistan’s Abdulaziz Abdupattayev defeated his neighbouring rival

Uzbekistan’s Saidjamshid Jafarov is ASBC Asian Elite Champion at the middleweight (75kg) and due to his age, he would be able to attend in the U22 age group but the coaches decided to give him some rest therefore Abdulaziz Abdupattayev received the chance to attend on home soil. He met with Kyrgyzstan’s Daniyar Omurbek Uulu who was medallist already at the 2015 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and returned to Tashkent after seven years of break. Abdupattayev used his right and left hands well enough to reach the target and the Kyrgyz boxer was unable to stop these quick attacks. Abdupattayev won all of the three rounds and marched to the semi-finals in the front of the home crowd.

Uzbekistan’s Sabina Bobokulova developed in all aspects of boxing

Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion and ASBC Asian Youth Champion Sabina Bobokulova turned to the U22 age group this January but she is already Elite National Champion as well. The 18-year-old Uzbek girl met with Tajikistan’s Rukhafzo Khaknazarova who competed at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. Bobokulova caught her older Tajik opponent with nice jabs in the first round and Mr. Ulugbek Baratov’s pupil continued her strong performance. The Uzbek light flyweight (50kg) boxer proved her developments in strength and speed since the last international event and bowed out Khaknazarova with fantastic performance.

Feruza Kazakova and Mungunsaran Balsan amazed in the last bout of the day

Feruza Kazakova reached the same results as Sabina Bobokulova, she claimed gold medals in Fujairah and in Dubai in the recent two and half years. The 18-year-old experienced female boxer shocked Mongolia’s Mungunsaran Balsan with her energetic attacks in the first minute therefore Kazakova took the lead in each of the scorecards. The Uzbek light flyweight (52kg) boxer put the older Mongolian under pressure but Balsan had the experiences from previous top championships to use her own tactical repertoires and she was more competitive in the second and third rounds. The Mongolian had a great final round but Kazakova’s advantage was too much to turn back the result on the scorecards.
