The AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships officially postponed to March 2022

The 12th AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships was planning to be hosted in Istanbul, Turkey between 4th and 19th December but due to the pandemic, travelling restrictions and other issues, the International Boxing Association decided to postpone the event to March 2022 until further notice.

The exact date of the upcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will be decided the International Boxing Association within March 2022 soon. The venue of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships is the Basaksehir Spor Kompleksi which has the capacity for the trainings, warm-ups and has also swimming pool in the complex.

Istanbul hosted several competitions in the recent decades and welcomed strong women and men boxers at the Bosphorus International Boxing Tournament this March where some of the female stars also attended.

The gold medallists will earn 100,000 USD, 50,000 is the prize for the silver while 25,000 dollars are for the bronze medals. The 10 ounces of gloves will be used in all of the weight categories from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the heavyweight (+81kg). The official weight categories are the 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 81kg and +81kg. The first historical AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships was held in Scranton, United States in 2001 already 20 years ago. Since then Antalya, Podolsk, New Delhi twice, Ningbo, Bridgetown, Qinhuangdao, Jeju, Astana and Ulan-Ude hosted the competition. The last edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships was held in Ulan-Ude, Russian Federation on November 2019.
