Mr. Ali Salameh – We are so grateful to the National Federations which sent their teams to the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships

The management of the Asian Boxing Confederation hosted the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships after the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. Both competitions have been hosted by the amazing city of Dubai which has a central location and all of the Asian National Federations can reach it easily. ASBC Executive Director Mr. Ali Salameh summarized also his experiences after the event and congratulated to the participants.

The combined event contained 10 competition days in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and it was held in a fantastic venue at the Grand Ballroom of the Le Meridien Hotel. The competition venue and the accommodation of the teams were in the same location therefore transportation was not required in the event. The competition was held in a well-designed venue and the lights, the music arrangements, the introduction of the boxers and the live broadcasts were all professional in Dubai.

Female and male boxers from the 2003 and 2004 age groups competed in the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and several of them amazed the experts in Dubai. Boxers who were born in 2005 and in 2006, were eligible to attend in the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. The ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships opened with an outstanding Grand Opening Ceremony.

Kazakhstan topped the youth medal standings with their impressive 11 gold medals among the older boxers. Uzbekistan won nine gold medals including three among the girls in the junior part and topped the team standings in Dubai. The overall medal table was won by Kazakhstan with 19 gold medals ahead of Uzbekistan and India.

The number of the youth boxers was 141 in Dubai who competed for the 12 women and the 13 men weight categories.  The number of the junior boxers was 152 in the event which was a good figure during this hard period. Altogether 13 junior girls and 13 junior boys celebrated their gold medals after the exciting finals in Dubai.

Fifteen Asian nations sent their boxers to the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships to Dubai: Bahrain, India, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Nepal, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, host United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan. All of them competed in both of the junior and youth parts of this combined ASBC Asian Boxing Championships.

“This was the first ever Asian Championship that mixed the junior and youth age groups for both genders therefore we could host the event in four different categories. The idea came due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the spread of the Coronavirus and this situation, furthermore its consequences are very hard for almost all of the Asian countries.

I am very proud of that ASBC could organize already the elite women, elite men, youth women, youth men, junior girls and junior boys’ championships in the continent during a very critical period.

We hoped that most of the National Federations attend in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships but we had to understand the situation and the governmental decisions of their countries.

The Asian Boxing Confederation supported many National Federations to participate in these championships. We are so grateful to those nations which could send their teams and thanks for their efforts and participations in Dubai,” said Mr. ASBC Executive Director Mr. Ali Salameh after the competition.
