ASBC Asian Junior Champion Nusratbek Tokhirov dominated the heavyweight at the Uzbekistan Youth National Cup
The new edition of the Uzbekistan Youth National Cup finished with its 11 final contests in Nukus where their young male talents competed for the medals. ASBC Asian Junior Champion Nusratbek Tokhirov dominated the heavyweight (91kg) but Azizbek Tojiyev, Madiyar Daniyarov and Ibrokhim Ishjonov all made remarkable performance.
Altogether 271 17 or 18-year-old boxers attended in the Uzbekistan Youth National Cup including winners and medallists from several international events. Nukus is the capital of Karakalpakstan and hosts the national event which was one of the selection competitions for the upcoming ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. The continental event is scheduled to be held at the very first time for both genders and will be taking place in Dubai, UAE in August 17-31.
Boxers who were born in 2003 and in 2004 are eligible to attend in the Uzbekistan Youth National Cup in Nukus. The national event was held in 11 different weight categories: 46kg, 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 91kg and +91kg. Uzbekistan Boxing Federation decided to add the pinweight (46kg) to the national event due to the high number of talents in that category.
The first gold medal of the Uzbekistan Youth National Cup was taken by Bukhara’s Asilbek Jalilov who had clear victories over his rivals and he outpointed Tashkent region’s Azizbek Agabekov at the pinweight (46kg). Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament winner 18-year-old Mukhammadkodir Mamirjonov was the main favourite for the gold at the light flyweight (49kg) and he defeated closely his main rivals as Namangan’s Mukhammadjon Kattaboyev and Bukhara’s Fayoz Sayfullayev.
Khorezm’s AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Ibrokhim Ishjonov moved up to the flyweight (52kg) and following his tough quarter-final against Jamshid Sodikov, he managed to win his last two bouts against Dzhizak’s Mukhammadkodir Abdullayev Surkhondarya’s Youth National Champion Khudjanazar Nortoziyev. Ishjonov used his longer hands to keep his opponent long and that was a workable tactic for him.
Karakalpakstan’s best future hope, Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament gold medallist Madiyar Daniyarov defeated Mirkomil Saytokhunov and Azat Khudjamuratov in the final stages of the bantamweight (56kg). The most experienced boxers of this weight class as ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships bronze medallist Asrorbek Shakhobiddinov and another medallist from Fujairah, Anvar Boltaboyev failed to reach the finals in Nukus.
ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Jakhonmurod Imamaliyev, Lazizbek Yuldashev and Yuldoshali Toshpulatov were the main favourites at the lightweight (60kg) but the gold medal was achieved by Karakalpakstan’s Sukhrob Aminov who defeated Ilyos Mamadismoilov of Andizhan in the final.
ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships bronze medallist and Youth National Champion Gofurjon Tokhirov was defeated by Karakalpakstan’s Temirkhan Maksetbayev in the semi-final of the light welterweight (64kg) but the title was taken by Andizhan’s Mirzomakhmat Mirzobekov who reached his career highlight with that gold. Bilolbek Ikhvolov, Bekzod Bekmuradov and Lazizbek Fattoyev all won several international medals but failed to get any medals in Nukus.
The title of the welterweight (69kg) was taken by Tashkent region’s Samandar Solijonov in Nukus following his success over Andizhan’s Abdulaziz Rasulov. Kashkadarya region’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion 18-year-old Azizbek Tojiyev moved up to the middleweight (75kg) and dominated all of his contests in the Youth National Cup. Tojiyev’s final opponent, Namangan’s Rakhmatullo Boymatov was unable to box against him.
Tashkent region’s Sarvar Sobirov lost to Sardor Rakhmonberdiyev in the semi-finals of the 2020 Youth National Championships and the same result happened in Nukus where the gold medal of the light heavyweight (81kg) was taken by Jasurbek Yuldashev. He was fresh enough in the final of the category and defeated Rakhmonberdiyev by unanimous decision.
Andizhan’s Fujairah 2019 ASBC Asian Junior Champion and Youth National Champion Nusratbek Tokhirov moved up to the heavyweight (91kg) and he dominated his contests including the final against Akobir Kakhramonov.
