Teenage star Weerapon Jongjoho won his tough contest in the third day of boxing at the Thailand Elite National Championships

Further 40 bouts were held in the third competition day at the Thailand National Elite Boxing Championships in the Muak Lek District which is holding from their women and men boxers and it is the first highlight for them after the pandemic. ASBC Asian Youth Champion Weerapon Jongjoho had a tough contest already in the last 16 but he managed to win that battle against Kittisak Klinsorn.   

Altogether 213 female and male bouts have been scheduled in the 2020 edition of the Thailand Elite National Boxing Championships in Muak Lek. There are more than 16 boxers in almost all of the weight categories in the national event where some of the divisions are crowded with more than 25 participating athletes. Boxers who were born between 1980 and 2001 are eligible to attend in the Thailand Elite National Boxing Championships.

The women boxers can compete in five weight categories in the national event: at the light flyweight (48kg), at the flyweight (51kg), at the featherweight (57kg), at the lightweight (60kg) and at the welterweight (69kg). The male boxers are competing for the medals in six different weight classes in Muak Lek: light flyweight (49kg), flyweight (52kg), featherweight (57kg), lightweight (63kg), welterweight (69kg) and middleweight (75kg).

Ratchaneekorn Sikadon achieved silver medal at the 2019 Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Bangkok and the 24-year-old boxer continued her campaign in the national event. She met in the last 16 of the light flyweight (48kg) with Nopparat Boonpluem and controlled all of the rounds against her rival in Muak Lek. Another international level boxer of this category, Panpradup Plodsai was slightly better than Janthakarn Mandbal.

Asian Games bronze medallist and ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships silver medallist Nilawan Techasuep spent short time in the ring in the third competition day when Nattpattharakorn Chairojkul’s ringside abandoned their unequal contest. Another National Champion at the women’s featherweight (57kg), 24-year-old Thantip Wannaphrom also stopped her first rival in the national event, Chuthamat Thongthang.

Samak Saehan represented Thailand at the light flyweight (49kg) in a few international events since 2015 and those experiences paid off in the third day of boxing in the National Championships. The 27-year-old boxer stopped Jathurong Muthaporn in the last 16 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the national event. In the same weight category, 18-year-old Natthapong Thuamcharoen dominated his contest against Phanuwat Chanthara.

Southeast Asian Games silver medallist Khunatip Pidnuch had more than 800 contests at the Muay thai but after that the currently 20-year-old talent switched to boxing. Thailand’s Eindhoven Box Cup winner lightweight (63kg) talent impressed against ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships competitor Thanawat Srijan and his strength decided the contest. ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Sakda Ruamtham had a narrow success over a new surprise, Natthapon Sankla.

ASBC Asian Youth Champion and Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist 19-year-old Weerapon Jongjoho is the main favourite of the middleweight (75kg) but the tall boxer had a tough contest already in the last 16 against Kittisak Klinsorn which he won by 4:1. Bangkok 2017 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Pluem Wangkhlaklang knocked out Chaiwat Mityasith in the preliminary round of the weight class.
