The Asian boxers earned 73 gold medals in the history of the AIBA Women’s and Men’s World Boxing Championships

The Asian boxers amazed in the recent editions of the AIBA events including the women’s elite, the men’s elite and youth global competitions. The Asian male boxers won 28 gold medals in the history of the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships and among them Kazakhstan claimed 12 titles. Uzbekistan, China, South Korea, Mongolia and Thailand bagged titles also for the Asian continent.

The Asian female boxers earned 45 titles in the history of the AIBA Women’s Elite World Boxing Championships since 2001. China achieved 18 gold medals in the event, but India’s 9 and DPR Korea’s 8 titles are also among the best performances. Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei and Philippines claimed gold medals in the history of the event.

The Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships delivered impressive successes for the Asian boxers, it became the best in terms of number of medals among the continents. The last edition of the AIBA World Boxing Championships was held in Yekaterinburg, Russia where Asia ranked No.1 among the continents in 2019.

Fifteen Asians male boxers earned medals in the AIBA World Boxing Championships and four out of the eight titles earned by our top Uzbeks and Kazakhs. Shakhobiddin Zoirov, Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov, Bekzad Nurdauletov and Bakhodir Jalolov became AIBA World Champions from Asia in Yekaterinburg one year ago.

Uzbekistan topped the medal standings with their three gold medals ahead of the Russian Federation. Kazakhstan achieved Asia’s fourth title in the AIBA World Boxing Championships continuing their fantastic series in our sport. India, Philippines and Mongolia are the further nations in Asia which have medallists in the Yekaterinburg 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships.

Altogether 107 Asian elite male boxers attended in the Yekaterinburg 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships from 21 nations: Afghanistan, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan.

New Delhi hosted the 2018 edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and Asia’s stars continued their powerful performance in the event’s history. Asia achieved eight titles out of the possible ten in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and became the most successful continent in New Delhi.

Asia had 36 boxers at the quarter-final stage and among them 21 athletes from 9 nations received medals in New Delhi. Following the two days of semi-finals twelve of our boxers were able to fight for the titles in New Delhi and among them eight won the gold medals. China achieved four titles and topped the team rankings, Chinese Taipei secured at the very first time two gold medals, India and DPR Korea both earned one title.

The last edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships took place in Ulan-Ude, Russia where three Asian boxers won the titles of the competition on October 2019. Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao Wen, Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio and China’s Dou Dan are the new AIBA Women’s World Champions from our continent.

Altogether 17 Asian boxers from eight different nations advanced to the last four out of the 40 medallists in Ulan-Ude and among them seven joined to the finals and three became champions. China, DPR Korea, India, Kazakhstan, Philippines, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Vietnam earned medals in the event among the Asian countries.

Altogether 76 strong Asian elite female boxers attended in the Ulan-Ude 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships from 13 nations: China, DPR Korea, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

The last 2018 edition of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships finished took place in Budapest, Hungary two years ago. Record number of 35 boxers from Asia claimed medals in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in the Hungarian capital and among them 16 advanced to the finals. Finally, the Asian continent claimed six gold medals in the women and men part of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. Thailand’s Thitisan Panmod, Uzbekistan’s Abdumalik Khalokov, Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Oralbay and India’s Nitu Ghanghas achieved four gold medals for the Asian continent in the first day of the finals. India’s Sakshi Choudhary and Kazakhstan’s Dina Islambekova won the titles in the last competition day for Asia.
